We aim to lead in inclusion as we do in education and research.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion as foundations of academic excellence and social impact.

We recognise that a vibrant, inclusive community enables innovation, empowers individuals, and strengthens our capacity to lead.

## Our commitment

## [Indigenous engagement](https://about.uq.edu.au/strategy-values/reconciliation)

We're committed to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff and communities across our teaching, research and learning. We’re focused on enabling Indigenous excellence through meaningful strategies in employment, research, procurement, cultural education, curriculum, and reconciliation.

## [Widening participation](https://partners-community.uq.edu.au/queensland-commitment)

We believe education and opportunity must be available for all. The Queensland Commitment is our pledge to break down barriers through strategies to build aspirations, grow pathways and support student success.

## [Gender equity](https://about.uq.edu.au/strategy-values/diversity-inclusion/sage-athena-swan)

We hold a SAGE Athena SWAN Bronze Award, recognising our commitment to gender equity, diversity and inclusion in higher education and research. We apply the SAGE Athena SWAN principles of reflection and support across our organisation.

## [LGBTQIA+ inclusion](https://staff.uq.edu.au/information-and-services/human-resources/diversity-and-inclusion/lgbtqia-inclusion-uq)

Our diverse LGBTQIA+ staff and students contribute to the richness of our community. We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, including those with diversity of sexuality, sex characteristics and gender.

## [Disability inclusion](https://about.uq.edu.au/strategy-values/diversity-inclusion/disability-services)

We're committed to creating an accessible, inclusive and welcoming environment. From our campus facilities to academic resources, we offer a range of services to support students and staff with disabilities or caring responsibilities.

## [Age-friendly university](https://ami.group.uq.edu.au/about/uq-age-friendly-university-initiative)

We're creating a vibrant and inclusive environment where ideas flourish and people, regardless of background or age, are supported to succeed. We're the first university in the Southern Hemisphere to join the Age-Friendly University Global Network. We’re also the first university to be formally recognised by Dementia Australia as a Dementia-Friendly Organisation.
