Mechanisms of learning at the interface between perception and action (2011-2014)

Abstract
This project aims to reveal how our brains recognise and process objects, and in particular, how the brain assimilates multimodal cues to an object's identity. Strong emphasis is placed on testing learning in a realistic context composed of the environment and observer¿s actions within it. The work will reveal fundamental processes in visual scene understanding and learning, with implications for models of cognitive impairment manifest in the associative agnosias. By making use of advanced physical as well as visual simulator technology, the project will also impact on the Future Fellow's ongoing collaborations investigating simulator-based training in mining, civil construction, endoscopy and motor rehabilitation.
