## Am I eligible to participate if I am graduating at the end of this semester?

If you are graduating in the same semester that the Summer or Winter Research program is due to commence you won’t be eligible to participate.  This ruling is made on the basis that your enrolment status at UQ will cease upon graduation (which usually takes place whilst the Summer or Winter Research Program is being offered).  This will result in you not fulfilling condition (b) of the eligibility criteria.

## Can I participate if I am graduating but continuing onto further study at UQ?

If you are due to graduate from your current program of study and will be commencing further undergraduate or postgraduate coursework study the following semester, you may be eligible to participate.  This will depend on whether you can demonstrate enrolment in your new program of study prior to the Summer or Winter Research Program commencing.  You may be asked to provide evidence of enrolment by providing an Enrolment Status Report, available through Si-Net

It is highly recommended you liaise with the Unit Coordinator of the Research Unit you wish to apply to, to determine if your application will be considered pending re-enrolment.

The decision to accept your application will reside with the Research Unit you apply to.

## I am in my first year at UQ, can I still apply?

Yes, however this depends on the specific requirements of each project and/or Research Unit.  Some projects may require an applicant to be in their 2nd or 3rd year OR to have completed specific courses prior to applying.

We recommend you read the project listing and check the Research Unit’s website first, then contact the Unit Coordinator if in doubt.

## I am in my first year at UQ but have an academic transcript from another university, can I include this in my application?

Yes.  Please upload your unofficial UQ studies report and the academic transcript from your previous institution to demonstrate your academic merit.

## Can part-time students still apply and receive a grant?

Yes.  It is however the responsibility of all grant recipients to make their own enquiries and seek independent advice regarding tax liability or impact on Centrelink payments arising from receipt of this grant.

## Can I obtain recognition towards my degree requirements?

No. The Summer Research Program is an extracurricular work experience opportunity and cannot be undertaken for course credit.

## How many projects can I apply for?

You can only submit one application per round.  Within the application form, you provide the name of your preferred project. If you are unsuccessful at gaining a position in that project, you will be considered for other relevant projects to your study area if possible.

## I have participated in a previous Summer or Winter research experience, can I still apply?

Students are only eligible to participate in 30 days of unpaid work experience in each calendar year. The winter research program accumulates 20 days, and the summer program accumulates 30 days. This means that you can only participate in one of these rounds per calendar year to stay within the 30 day limit but this is 'reset' each year.

Please be aware that some research units have their own eligibility requirements limiting the number of times a student can participate in the programs. Please make sure to read through your relevant research unit website for your project of interest to ensure you are meeting all requirements.

## I want to apply for a project in the Faculty of Science, is there anything I need to know?

The Faculty of Science have specific additional eligibility for the Summer rounds that you must adhere to if you wish to be considered for a project in that faculty. This can be found by going to the "Find a project" webpage and selecting the faculty link. Please note that if you do not meet this specific eligibility, you can still apply for the program and select a project from outside of the Faculty of Science to be considered.

The eligibility stipulates that students who have participated in the Summer Research Program previously will not be eligible to apply. This does not apply to students who have completed a Summer Research Course within the faculty, but only a successful engaged in a previous Summer Research Program project. Previous participation in the Winter Research Program also does not effect this.

## Can I apply for the program if I am not a UQ student?

No, the Summer and Winter Research Program is only open to eligible UQ undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.

## I am an exchange student enrolled in study at UQ, am I eligible to apply?

Students who are engaged in an exchange semester at UQ in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program are eligible to apply for the summer and winter research programs so long as they are enrolled in the semester before and semester after the program dates. Please note, some units may have additional selection criteria specific to their unit or projects.
