I-WIN Team Won the First Prize of IEEE Communications Society 2014 Student Competition
I-WIN’s Avatars(A Software-Defined Radio based Teleoperating Cyber-Physical System for Disaster Environment Exploration)competed with many famous students’ teams like MIT was awarded as the first prize of IEEE Communications Society Student Competition which was held in Austin, USA in December, 2014. The student race team,I-WIN from Intelligent Wireless Networks and Cooperative Control Research Center was instructed by Professor Guan xinping from Automation Department of SEIEE. Doctoral student Li Li’an from Automation Department as the only reprensent who is fully financed by IEEE Communications Society attended the Globecom’14 with awarding and prize.
The competition was initiated by top-notch association IEEE with annual different topics. More than 50 global well-known specialists from 26 IEEE’S technical committees act as jury to select one first prize and one or two second prizes which award in Globecom annual conference. This year’s topic is Communication Technology Changing the World. I-WIN’s AVATAR was based on the defined software radio to realize the CPS of detecting the environmental hazards. The system need not rely on infrastructure. Also, it can flexibly build wireless communication networks and effective transmission link. Robots could kick back the live videos from detecting and can give real-time control orders to the terminal robots , the system is based on current international integrative design concept of information and physics , aiming at situations like personnel unapproachable and infrastructure damage. It fully reflects mutual information technology and physical systems.
I-WIN student competitive team is a cross-discipline student research group which members include undergraduate Cao Yong from Electronics Department, graduate Yu Wenbin, Yang Ziwen and Xia Youjie from Automation Department along with doctoral student Li Li’an. They are instructed by Professor Chen Cailian, Research assistant Wang Yiyin and associate professor Yang Bo. This team was set up in 2012 which relied on all group members passionate and efforts on studying wireless network systems. With the support of Intelligent Wireless Networks and Cooperative Control Research Center, a few projects by I-WIN first and last won the first prize of National Virtual Instrument Contest, National College Internet of Things Applicable Innovation Contest of East China and Second National prize, first prize of The United States National Instruments Graduation Design Contest which is also with their accumulation and perfection on the technology innovation. Some team members one after another was awarded as Outstanding bachelor’s thesis, national scholarship and outstanding graduates etc. It was a good practical example for encouraging undergraduate students joining in the scientific research, stressing on cross-disciplines, cultivating teamwork between graduates and undergraduates on the purpose of enhancing university students’ capability of independent innovations and teamwork spirits.
