### A Message from Dean

The glorious history of the School of Electronics, Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE) could be traced back to more than one hundred years ago when Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) first established its discipline of Electric Machines. During the century-long growth, generations of SEIEEers have followed our motto - “remember the root and dream high, share weal and woe, and strive for success with integrity”, and cultivated more than one hundred thousand diverse talents including outstanding statesmen, scientists, educators and industrialists such as Jiang Zemin, Wang An, Yang Jiachi, and Zhang Zhongjun.

With over 900 faculty and staff members and more than 9000 full time students, SEIEE is now the largest school in SJTU, and one of the largest among all Chinese universities of similar kinds. Built upon an interdisciplinary platform, SEIEE has considerable expertise and international recognition in 8 first-level disciplines, including Electrical Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, and Cyber Security.  With major investments from the central and municipal
government, SEIEE has enjoyed significant growth over the past decade and
rapidly become one of the leading engineering schools in the world. The school
features 9 State Key Research Labs and 17 provincial and ministerial-level Key
Research Labs, providing a dynamic environment and state-of-the-art facilities
for scientific research. The SEIEE offers top-notch educational programs for students
around the world. Our highly talented students have achieved acclaimed
successes at the global stage, including for example, winning the Gold Medal of
prestigious ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest 6 times since its
commencement.

SEIEE is now undergoing a comprehensive reform with the prime objectives to optimize our faculty resources (e.g., through the establishment of dedicated research institutes) to fulfill the state strategic demands; to enhance interdisciplinary collaborations and facilitate world class research; and to promote the internationalization of the school and upgrade the salary and benefits system. By conducting solid fundamental research, achieving the State strategic mandates, and providing the best educational and social services, we are determine to build an institute that is among the very best of global universities.

Perhaps you have not been directly involved in the past development of SEIEE. However, our exciting present and future are open to you! We sincerely invite the elite talents from home and abroad, in Electronics, Information and Electrical Engineering or other related fields to join us! We greatly appreciate advice and participation from alumni and friends from all over the world! And, we openly encourage students from all over the country to apply for the SEIEE.
