The Sixth Shanghai Environmental Forum “Environment, Energy and Health” for Graduate Students Was Held at SJTU

On December 19th, 2021, the sixth Shanghai Environmental Forum “Environment, Energy and Health” for Graduate Students was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Over 200 students from universities around Shanghai, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, and Shanghai Ocean University, attended the forum through online and offline channels.

The forum started with the invited lectures. Chinese Academy of Engineering member Wu Minghong gave a lecture, in which she introduced the zero-emission technology for pollutant treatment that can help to reduce pollution and carbon emissions and employ advanced functional materials. She also explained the current bottleneck in achieving carbon capture and transformation, the technologies of exploiting clean energy, and the latest findings in environmental functional materials under the background of the carbon neutrality and emission peak goals.

In the lecture titled “Shanghai Birth Cohort,” Prof. Zhang Jun shared his latest findings on pre-natal care in Shanghai, in which he explained the effects of perfluorochemicals on human health, and encouraged students to give priority to solving environmental problems such as those of perfluorochemicals.

After the invited lectures, the keynote speech session and poster session were held. 37 students made keynote speeches around their research topics, research methods and academic findings. The experts appraised and commented on the presenters’ works, and selected the most excellent papers and posters.

The forum provided a platform for graduate students to demonstrate their research findings. It can also promote the development of ecological civilization, and the realization of the carbon neutrality and emission peak goals.
