Nine SJTU Members Elected as 2026 IEEE Fellows

Recently, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced its new class of Fellows. A total of nine members of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) community have been elected as 2026 IEEE Fellows.

【Alumni Profiles】

Yu Kai

Distinguished Professor, School of Computer Science, Shanghai Jiao Tong University\ Director, Machine Intelligence Institute\ Co-founder and Chief Scientist, AISpeech

Citation: Contributions to the design and application of spoken language technologies.

Recipient of national high-level talent programs, NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund awardee, ISCA Fellow, IEEE Fellow. Prof. Yu has long been engaged in the research and industrialization of conversational artificial intelligence. He has published over 200 papers and received multiple Best Paper Awards at leading international conferences and journals in speech and dialogue, as well as international evaluation championships. He currently serves as a member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Conference Board and Membership Board, Director of the Speech Dialogue and Auditory Technical Committee of the China Computer Federation, and head of the National New-Generation AI Open Innovation Platform for Language Computing.

Kong Linghe

PhD (2012) in Computer Architecture, School of Computer Science, SJTU\ Distinguished Professor and PhD Supervisor, School of Computer Science, SJTU

Citation: Contributions to energy efficiency and security in the Internet.

Recipient of national high-level talent programs, IEEE Fellow. Prof. Kong focuses on research in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. He has authored four monographs, published over 200 papers, and received 16 Best Paper Awards at international conferences. As principal investigator, he has led National Key R&D Program projects, NSFC key and special projects, enterprise joint key projects, international collaboration projects, and general projects. He founded the international journal Artificial Intelligence for Engineering and serves on the editorial boards of IEEE TMC and IEEE TII.

Luo Xiaochuan

BEng (1992) and MEng (1995) in Power System and Automation, School of Electrical Engineering, SJTU\ Manager, Power System Research Department, ISO New England (USA)

Citation: Contributions to enhancing the reliability assessment of large-scale power grids.

IEEE Fellow. Mr. Luo has long been engaged in research on power system operation and planning, with over 100 published papers. He received the 2023 EPRI Technology Transfer Award and the 2023 IEEE PES Outstanding Service Award from the Power System Operations, Planning, and Economics Committee, among others. He currently serves as Secretary of the IEEE PES Corporate Engagement Program (CEP), Vice Chair of the IEEE PES Working Group on Cloud for Grid Modernization and Digital Transformation, and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Energy Markets, Policy, and Regulation.

Chen Yunfei

BEng (1998) in Electronic Engineering and MEng (2001) in Communication and Information Systems, School of Integrated Circuits, SJTU\ Professor of Signal Processing and Communications, Department of Engineering, Durham University

Citation: Contributions to mathematical analysis of wireless communication systems and statistical signal processing.

IEEE Fellow. Prof. Chen’s research focuses on 6G wireless network design, integrated air–ground–sea communications, UAV-assisted communications, and machine-learning-enabled wireless resource optimization. He has been listed as a Clarivate “Highly Cited Researcher” for six consecutive years (2020–2025) and among Stanford University’s “World’s Top 2% Scientists,” and has won nine Best Paper Awards at leading international conferences. He founded and leads a cutting-edge wireless communication systems research center and serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems and Science China Information Sciences.

Yuan Xiaojun

BEng (1999) in Communication Engineering, School of Integrated Circuits, SJTU\ Professor, National Key Laboratory of Communication Anti-Jamming, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

Citation: Contributions to Bayesian inference techniques for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and wireless communications.

Recipient of national young talent programs, IEEE Fellow. Prof. Yuan has long focused on wireless communications, information and signal processing, and machine learning. He has published over 180 IEEE journal papers, including multiple ESI Highly Cited and Hot Papers, with more than 9,500 citations on Google Scholar. In recent years, he has filed over 50 patents, published four monographs and one translated book, and led more than 30 national, provincial, and industry-sponsored projects.

Tang Huajin

MEng (2001) in Power Machinery and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, SJTU\ Qiushi Distinguished Professor and PhD Supervisor, Zhejiang University

Citation: Contributions to brain-inspired computing and machine cognition.

Recipient of national high-level talent programs, IEEE Fellow. Prof. Tang’s research focuses on brain-inspired computing, neuromorphic computing and chips, and intelligent robotics. He has led major national projects, including the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “New Generation Artificial Intelligence” initiative, NSFC key projects, and projects funded by Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems.

Liang Xiaohui

BEng (2006) in Computer Science and Technology and MEng (2009) in Computer Software and Theory, School of Computer Science, SJTU\ Associate Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Computer Science, University of Massachusetts Boston

Citation: Contributions to IoT communications and data security.

IEEE Fellow. Prof. Liang’s research interests include mobile health, IoT security and privacy, wearable computing, and intelligent communication systems. He has published over 100 journal and conference papers. As of October 2025, his Google Scholar h-index is 55 with more than 13,600 citations. He serves as Principal Investigator on NIH R01 projects and NSF projects, and is Associate Editor of the IEEE Internet of Things Journal.

Wang Zhaoyu

BEng (2009) in Electrical Engineering and Automation and MEng (2012) in Power System and Automation, School of Electrical Engineering, SJTU\ Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Iowa State University

Citation: Contributions to conservation voltage reduction and networked microgrids in distribution systems.

IEEE Fellow. Prof. Wang focuses on optimization and data analytics for distribution systems and microgrids. He has received the NSF CAREER Award and the IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award, among others. Projects he has led as Principal Investigator have secured total funding exceeding USD 24 million. He serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy and IEEE Power Engineering Letters.

Zhou Haibo

PhD (2014) in Information and Communication Engineering, School of Integrated Circuits, SJTU\ Professor, School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Nanjing University

Citation: Contributions to wireless access and resource management in vehicular networks and integrated space–air–ground networks.

Recipient of national young talent programs, IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow, and winner of the Jiangsu Outstanding Youth Fund. Prof. Zhou’s research focuses on theoretical foundations and key technologies for integrated space–air–ground vehicular heterogeneous networking and dynamic resource management. His work won the First Prize of the 2023 China Institute of Command and Control Science and Technology Progress Award and was selected among the “Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in the IoT Field” in 2024. In recent years, he has published over 100 high-impact papers in leading IEEE journals, including 12 Best Journal/Conference Paper Awards and 12 ESI Highly Cited Papers, authored five academic monographs, and obtained over 30 Chinese and U.S. patents.
