Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Center for Single Cell Omics and Diseases (CSCOmics) — Global Talent Recruitment

June 27, 2025 Page views: 6128

About the Center

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) School of Medicine is a research-driven and innovation-oriented institution with a strong international reputation. It is known for its academic excellence, distinguished faculty, and comprehensive integration of medical care, education, research, and public service.

The Center for Single Cell Omics and Diseases (CSCOmics) was established in 2019 and operates under the School of Public Health and is a key division of the School of Medicine. The School of Public Health addresses national priorities such as "Healthy China" and "Digital China," and is committed to developing ethical, interdisciplinary, and forward-thinking public health leaders. By leveraging a wide range of different disciplines, including medicine, science, engineering, and humanities, the center has built a collaborative hub-and-spoke model of integrated development.

The school has developed a distinctive (known as “Big Public Health”) discipline cluster that integrates clinical medicine, public health, engineering, life sciences, and the humanities. This cluster bridges macro and micro perspectives and incorporates population-level and basic science approaches. It is consistently recognized as one of China’s leading public health institutions in major rankings, including US News, ARWU, and Times Higher Education. The school offers a full spectrum of academic programs—including undergraduate, academic and professional master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and postdoctoral opportunities—within a talent development model centered on problem-solving, research training, interdisciplinary integration, practical experience, and holistic evaluation.

Working alongside the School of Public Health, CSCOmics explores interdisciplinary approaches that bridge basic science, population health, clinical practice, prevention, and policy research. The center brings together a team of leading scientists to develop state-of-the-art laboratories and advance next-generation single-cell omics technologies. Its research focuses on understanding genetic heterogeneity and disruptions in metabolic networks that drive disease, with the aim of pushing the frontiers of single-cell biology and its applications in translational medicine.

The university provides full support for the development of the Center, which is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for single-cell separation and analysis. Equipment includes:

For downstream omics applications, the center also features:

Other shared resources include mass spectrometers (Thermo Orbitrap Exploris™ 480, AB SCIEX TripleTOF™ 6600 plus, timsTOF Pro2), as well as multiple biosafety cabinets, fluorescence and optical microscopes, high-speed centrifuges, and clean PCR workstations—ensuring a strong foundation for advanced single-cell research.

Talent Program Invitation

To strengthen China’s scientific talent funding system and attract exceptional global researchers, we warmly invite outstanding early-career scholars based overseas to join us at CSCOmics and the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. We are also actively encouraging applications through the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas), which remains open year-round. The School offers one-on-one consultation and tailored support throughout the application process. We are eager to welcome brilliant minds from around the world—join us in shaping the future of biomedical science!

About the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas)

To strengthen the talent funding system and attract international scholars, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) launched the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas). This program seeks to attract exceptional early-career researchers—including non-Chinese nationals—who have made significant contributions in the natural sciences or engineering to pursue their work in China. Participants are encouraged to independently choose their research direction and carry out innovative projects.

The program aims to advance science and technology on the global stage by promoting the development of the next generation of scientific leaders and researchers.

We provide full application support and consultation for qualified candidates.
