## Shanghai Jiao Tong University Denmark Alumni Association Established

Copenhagen, September 30, 2025 — The founding meeting of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Denmark Alumni Association was held on September 28 in Copenhagen. Hu Weiwei, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of SJTU, met with nearly 30 alumni representatives from Denmark to recall their shared roots and discuss future development. Counselor Su Liya, Director Shen Ang, and Consul Zhang Fan from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Denmark, as well as representatives from the SJTU Alumni Associations in Sweden and the UK, were invited to attend the meeting.
On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, Su Liya congratulated the official establishment of the Denmark Alumni Association, expressing the embassy’s support for its future work and encouraging alumni to continue contributing to China-Denmark friendship while pursuing their careers and lives in Denmark. Zhou Jing, head of the preparatory committee, introduced the preparations for the association’s establishment. Gu Xiyao, Director of the SJTU Alumni Association Office, announced the list of members of the first Council of the Denmark Alumni Association, with Zhou Jing serving as President and Zhang Meiqin as Secretary-General. Vice President Hu Weiwei presented appointment letters to the council members and handed the association flag to President Zhou Jing.
In his speech, Zhou Jing expressed gratitude to the embassy representatives and SJTU faculty for attending despite their busy schedules. He pledged to uphold the SJTU spirit of “Gratitude and Self-Improvement, Mutual Support and Joint Progress,” uniting and leading alumni to stay connected with their alma mater and actively promote cooperation and exchange between SJTU and partners in Denmark and across Europe. Lin Ruiyu, Secretary-General of the Sweden Alumni Association, and Lu Yichen, a Council Member of the UK Alumni Association, extended heartfelt congratulations on the establishment of the Denmark Alumni Association and shared valuable experiences in alumni association development and alumni relations.
Gu Xiyao introduced the university’s recent alumni work progress, while Wang Qian, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, presented updates on SJTU’s international collaboration efforts. Tong Xinyu (Undergraduate Class of 2021, UM-SJTU Joint Institute), Cai Changsi (Undergraduate Class of 2005, Master’s Class of 2008, and PhD Class of 2011, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology), and Huang Yige (Undergraduate Class of 2008, School of Integrated Circuits) shared their academic and professional journeys, encouraging alumni in Denmark to carry forward the SJTU spirit of “Pursuing Truth and Pragmatism” and to realize personal value through dedication in their respective fields.
On behalf of SJTU, Hu Weiwei expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for its long-term support and care for SJTU alumni in Denmark, and extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the Denmark Alumni Association. She highly affirmed and thanked alumni for their efforts in promoting cooperation and exchange between SJTU and the Danish region. Hu also shared recent achievements and developments of the university, expressing her hope that the Denmark Alumni Association would strengthen its organizational structure, serve as a solid support network for alumni, enhance cross-sector exchanges, and contribute to the university’s global development. She encouraged all SJTU alumni to unite and work together to advance the “Global SJTU” strategy and further expand the university’s international influence.
During the ceremony, Hu Weiwei awarded the plaque “Home of SJTU Alumni (Denmark)” to the Denmark Alumni Association.
**About the SJTU Denmark Alumni Association:**
The SJTU Denmark Alumni Association was established in Copenhagen on September 28, 2025. The first council consists of seven members, with Zhou Jing serving as President and Zhang Meiqin as Secretary-General. The association has currently connected with over 40 SJTU alumni residing in Denmark.
