From 25 August to 7 September 2024, the UNSW Summer Program in Chinese Law was successfully conducted at KoGuan School of Law. Led by Professor Xiaochuan Weng from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Faculty of Law, the program welcomed 27 student participants.
The program featured ten carefully selected courses, all delivered in English, offering a broad exploration of Chinese law. These courses spanned various legal fields, including Chinese securities law, foreign trade law, company law, foreign investment law, and competition law. Through these comprehensive lectures, participants gained a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the Chinese legal framework.
Beyond classroom learning, students had the opportunity to visit the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SIAC) and SUNHOLD Law Firm. These field trips provided participants with a first-hand experience of China's legal practice, allowing them to observe the evolving professional landscape and the increasing internationalization of the legal sector. The visits also highlighted the distinctiveness of China's legal culture.
To further enrich the students’ experience, the program included a variety of cultural and travel activities, offering participants a chance to immerse themselves in China's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Since 2010, KoGuan School of Law, SJTU and the UNSW Faculty of Law have jointly organized the Summer Program in Chinese Law. Over the past decade, the program has played a significant role in fostering international cooperation and academic exchange between our institutions.
