Shang-Hua Teng won the Gödel Prize

On May 27th local time, ACM SIGACT announced that SJTU's alumni graduated from Electrical and Computer Science major, professor at the University of Southern California Shang-Hua Teng(滕尚华) won the Gödel Prize again. This is also his second time cooperating with Yale professor Dan Spielman and wining Gödel Prize. Their co-authored paper has won Gödel Prize in 2008. This time they are awarded because of their series papers in terms of near-linear time Laplace solver.

Shang-Hua Teng graduated from SJTU in 1985 with a double bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science and then get his master's and doctor's degree in the University of Southern California and Carnegie Mellon University. He had taught in MIT, University of Minnesota, Illinois Urbana - Champaign and Boston University. Shang-Hua Teng was elected in 2009 to be the Fellow American Association for Computing Machinery (ACM fellow), and in the same year, he won the Fulkerson Prize awarded by American Mathematical Society and the American Mathematical Planning Society.

Gödel Prize was jointly established in 1993 by European Computer Society (EATCS) and ACM SIGACT. It is the highest prize in the field of theoretical computing awarded to the most outstanding theoretical computer science papers. Up to now, Shang-Hua Teng was the only award-winning Chinese scholar.

It is reported that the award will be issued in Oregon during the ACM Symposium on Computer which will be held from June 14th to 17th, 2015.
