The LMU Gene Center combines interdisciplinary research and teaching in central areas of modern biology. It houses the research groups of the Department of Biochemistry (Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy), internally and externally funded independent junior research groups as well as several groups of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The research groups address key questions in the life sciences using state-of-the-art technologies. Main research areas are structural and molecular biology, genome and systems biology, innate immunity and infection biology, and translational medicine. The Gene Center is currently headed by Karl-Peter Hopfner.
