# Study Information for Incoming Exchange Students

## Economics Courses

The official LMU course catalogue ("Vorlesungsverzeichnis") is usually available 2-3 month before the semester starts. It can be accessed through the [LSF website](https://lsf.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de/qisserver/rds?state=wtree&search=1&category=veranstaltung.browse&navigationPosition=functions%2Clectureindex&breadcrumb=lectureindex&topitem=locallinks&subitem=lectureindex "Link opens in a new window").

[Lectures & Tutorials](#accordionItem-1830361-0)

Exchange students at the Department of Economics may take all regular courses (lecture + tutorial) offered in the bachelor and the master program\* (Master of Science in Economics). Exchange students cannot take courses from the Master of Science in Quantitative Economics.

**It is not required to sign up for courses consisting of a lecture and a tutorial offered by the Department of Economics.**

*\*Bachelor exchange students may also take courses from the master program. However, please be aware that these courses are naturally more demanding and challenging and thus can be only recommended to advanced and highly motivated undergraduate students, who are willing to put in the required extra effort and are used to technical approaches and formal proofs (-> sound knowledge of math is required!).*

## Other Courses

[Courses offered by the Munich School of Management](#accordionItem-1830847-0)

Exchange students enrolled at the Department of Economics may also take courses offered by the Department of Business Administration/Munich School of Management.

At the Munich School of Management some courses are taught in English for bachelor as well as for master students every semester. [Courses offered by other departments/faculties](#accordionItem-1830847-1)

Exchange students may also take courses offered at other departments/faculties of LMU as long as the respective department and lecturer of the course does agree to it. [German language courses](#accordionItem-1830847-2)

Information on German language courses are provided by [LMU International Office](https://www.lmu.de/en/study/all-degrees-and-programs/programs-for-international-visiting-students/erasmus-and-lmuexchange/language-courses/ "Link opens in a new window"). Exchange students may add these to their transcript by adding them to their schedule in LSF.

## Learning Agreement

Incoming exchange students can get their learning agreements signed by the Economics Exchange Incoming Coordinator. Please come by during the official consultation hours of the [Economics Exchange Incoming Coordinator](https://www.econ.lmu.de/en/study/student-exchange-programs/#st_tab_area__master) or send your Learning Agreement to [incoming-exchange@econ.lmu.de](mailto:incoming-exchange@econ.lmu.de).

As you do not have to sign up for the regular courses (lectures & tutorials) at the Department of Economics and as a seminar spot can first be applied for at semester begin, we recommend that you attend the [Welcome and Orientation Meeting at the Department of Economics](https://www.econ.lmu.de/en/study/student-exchange-programs/incoming-students-welcome-meeting/) first and then get your learning agreement signed after you have finalized your course choice.

## Exams, Grading System & Transcript of Records

[Exam Dates](#accordionItem-1890180-0)

Lectures require a written exam at the end or shortly after the end of the semester. There are no separate exams for tutorials as these are only offered in conjunction with lectures. You can find an overview of the exam dates ("Klausurenmasterplan") for the upcoming semester on the website of the [Examination Office (ISC)](http://www.isc.uni-muenchen.de/pruef_org/index.html "Link opens in a new window").

[Exam Registration](#accordionItem-1890180-1)

Students need to register for all exams offered by the Department of Economics and the Department of Business Administration. Registration is done via the [LSF](https://lsf.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de/qisserver/rds?state=user&type=0 "Link opens in a new window") ("Register for exams" after login).

Information on the registration period ("Klausuren An- und Abmeldung") is provided by the [Examination Office (ISC)](https://www.lmu.de/isc/en/isc-studi-wiki/examinations/ "Link opens in a new window").

For registration procedures concerning exams offered by departments or faculties other than Economics or Business Administration, students should ask the lecturer or the responsible department coordinator whether an exam registration is necessary and if so, how to proceed.

[Grades and ECTS-credits](#accordionItem-1890180-2)

All exams are graded on a scale from 1 to 5. In order to get a more accurate evaluation each grade can be raised and lowered by 0.3 whereby 0.7, 4.3, 4.7 and 5.3 are not assigned.

Students obtaining 4.0 or better on an exam receive ECTS-credits. The number of ECTS-credits depends on the workload of the course. Most courses award 6 ECTS-credits.

You can download your transcript of records online via [LSF](https://lsf.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de/qisserver/rds?state=user&type=0 "Link opens in a new window") at end of each semester.\
To ensure that all your examination results are enclosed please adhere to the following procedure:\

1. Add all courses you take to your schedule in LSF (-> in LSF course catalogue select course and press "Add to schedule").
2. If you have taken any courses from departments other than Economics or Management, please ask the respective lecturer to upload your examination results directly in LSF.
