Please note that you will need to include a proof of your **language proficiency in German (B2)** with your application.
**Master Degree Programs** \
The language of instruction in our Master's programs (Chemistry and Pharmacy) is predominantly **German**. The Master in Biochemistry is in **English**. For the Master's program at our faculty it is therefore necessary that you have sufficient knowledge of German or English.
Please note that you will need to include a proof of your **language proficiency in German or English (B2)** with your application.
**Language Courses** \
There is a wide range of language preparatory programs to help you get ready for your studies in Munich. Therefore, please check out LMU's page on [German courses and foreign languages for international students at LMU.](https://www.lmu.de/de/studium/internationale-vollzeit-studierende/sprachkurse/index.html "Link opens in a new window")
[Learning Agreement / Chossing Courses](#accordionItem-1291425-2)
Submitting a Learning Agreement is mandatory for ERASMUS+ students.\
\
We ask other exchange students to fill in such an agreement as well.\
\
Please read the information on the [pages of the LMU International Office.](https://www.lmu.de/en/study/all-degrees-and-programs/programs-for-international-visiting-students/erasmus-and-lmuexchange/how-to-apply/index.html#st_img_text__master_2 "Link opens in a new window") .
In the Learning Agreement, list the courses you wish to attend at LMU Munich (usually 30 ECTS-credits per semester).
The courses can be found in the LMU [course catalog (LSF)](https://lsf.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de "Link opens in a new window"). The course catalog is publicly accessible.
The [course catalogue (LSF)](https://lsf.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de "Link opens in a new window") for the upcoming **winter semester** is usually published at the **end of July**, the course catalogue for the upcoming **summer semester** usually at the **beginning of February**.
At the time you prepare your Learning Agreement, the course catalogue for the semester of your study visit has therefore often not yet been published. In this case, we recommend that you choose courses from the course catalogue of the previous winter or summer semester. A [guide to working with LSF](https://cms-cdn.lmu.de/media/lmu/downloads/studium/international-office/course-instructions_barr.pdf "Link opens in a new window") is available to help you.
If you have any questions regarding the Learning Agreement, please do not hesitate to contact our [contact persons](https://www.cup.lmu.de/en/study/student-mobility/ansprechpersonen/) for international students.

[Exams](#accordionItem-1291425-5)
**Examination Periods** **\**
- Two examination dates are set per semester for all **mandatory courses**.
- The **first examinations** usually take place in the first two weeks of the lecture-free period (winter semester: from mid/end of February; summer semester from mid/end of July).
- The **repeat examinations** take place approx. 2 weeks before the end of the semester (winter semester from mid-March; summer semester from mid-September).
- For **compulsory courses** (compulsory elective lectures, practicals, seminars), the lecturers set the dates. Usually, examinations take place in the last week of the lecture period.
**Registration for examinations**\
Registration for examinations varies from course to course. Registration formalities are announced in the respective course.
**Grades**\
**All exams are graded on a scale from 1.0, being the best, to 5.0, having failed**.\
In order to get a more accurate evaluation, each grade can be raised and lowered by 0.3 (however, 0.3, 0.7, 4.3, 4.7, 5.3 and 5.7 are not assigned).\
**To pass an exam and to receive ECTS-credits, you need to obtain a grade of 4.0 or better**.The number of credit points you will receive depends on the workload of the course.
[Trancript of Records](#accordionItem-1291425-6)
At the end of your stay at LMU, you will receive a Transcript of Records listing all the courses you have attended with grades and ECTS points. Please, be aware that **the Trancript of Records will not be issued automatically** in a printed form. You therefore need to take the following steps to create a transcript:
- Register for the exam in LSF
- The study coordination and/or examinatoin office enter your grades and ECTS credits into LSF
- Generate your transcript of records in LSF
Please, follow the detailed [LSF guide Transcript of Records for exchange students at LMU Munich](https://www.en.hilfe.lsf.uni-muenchen.de/lsf_hilfe/austauschstudis/index.html "Link opens in a new window") in the section *Generated via LSF*.
**Please note:**
- Not all passed results are automatically transferred to the LSF system.
- For certain courses - especially elective lectures and practical courses - please make sure that you have registered for the exam in LSF.
- Courses that are not offered by the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, such as language courses or courses at other departments, cannot be booked by the Examinations Office. Please contact the lecturer of the course in question directly.
- Due to the high workload in the Examinations Office after the examination period, it may take a little longer to book your achievements. We therefore ask for your patience.
- If your home university requires a Transcript of Records with stamp and/or signature, please contact the International Office of the LMU ( [erasmus-incoming@lmu.de](mailto:erasmus-incoming@lmu.de) or [lmu-exchange-incoming@lmu.de](mailto:lmu-exchange-incoming@lmu.de))\
If you have any further questions regarding the Transcript of Records, please get in contact with the corresponding [student office](https://www.cup.lmu.de/en/study/service-points/).
