[Green Finance Theme-based Research Series] Policy Design to Support Hong Kong as a Green Finance Hub

24 Jul 2025

Under the project “Developing Hong Kong as a Global Green Finance Centre”, supported by the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) 2021/22 of the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the Hong Kong Government (project no. T31-603/21-N), our study comprises a series of cohesive studies that address fundamental research questions, including:

  1. The Impacts of Environmental Risks on Financial Markets and Financial Decisions
  2. Climate Risk Modeling and Derivative Products
  3. The Financing of Green Infrastructure Projects
  4. Enabling Technologies of Green Finance
  5. Talent Capacity Building and Talent Development
  6. The Effectiveness of Policy and Regulatory Instruments in Developing Green Finance in Hong Kong

In this video, the Task 6(a) team will highlight its mission to position Hong Kong as a leading international green finance hub. By focusing on public policy, the project team explores strategies to mobilize capital for the Asia-Pacific region, build market confidence, and strengthen regional partnerships for sustainable development. With four key research areas—defining Hong Kong's role in global green economic transformation, establishing effective governance architecture, supporting policy and market design, and building infrastructure for implementation and innovation—the team has engaged with global experts and provided practical recommendations to policymakers. Task 6(a) will continue to promote its findings and shape policies to help Hong Kong lead the global green finance transition.
