Biotechnology's Role in Combatting Overconsumption by Lisa-Marie Kreidler

The issue of overconsumption poses significant challenges to the environment and human well-being, often leading to pollution and negative health impacts. Overconsumption, exemplified by Hong Kong’s 2,300 tonnes of annual plastic waste, highlights the urgent need for innovative environmental strategies (Solum, 2022). While the scientific community has made progress in addressing the consequences, the potential of biotechnological solutions for environmental issues remains under-explored despite biotech having proven its potential in healthcare.The purpose of this video segment is to raise awareness of biotechnology’s potential in addressing overconsumption and pollution. As someone deeply interested in environmental biotechnology, this was a passion project. My goal was to contribute to an emerging online affinity space that connects people from diverse backgrounds and shared interests.
