Research postgraduate (MPhil & PhD)
I am interested in research-related areas. How do I know if I should apply for MPhil or PhD program?
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program is generally suited for students who have completed their undergraduate degree. A research-related background is not required.\
\
Meanwhile the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is for candidates with ample research experience and methodological knowledge (such as those who have already obtained a relevant MPhil degree), or those who have shown promising results and relevant experience in their undegraduate studies.\
\
Applicants may choose to apply for both the MPhil and PhD programs, but are advised to consult their potential supervisors first for opinion.
I’ve submitted an application for the MPhil / PhD program. Will I be assigned a supervisor?
No. Applicants are required to **actively reach out to and obtain the endorsements** from at least two faculty members to act as their prime supervisor*\** / co-supervisor(s), and to support their studentship throughout their studies.\
\
Please note that applications will not be reviewed until all required documents are submitted and at least two supervisors are identified.\
*\*The prime supervisor must be an AMC faculty member.*
Will I receive a studentship to support my studies?
All full-time research PG students should be funded 12 months a year, up to 2 years for MPhil students and 3/4 years for PhD students. The studentship support will come mainly from the supervisors, and/or the university. The support may be dependent on satisfactory progress in the PG study or satisfactory work. Part-time students will not be given any studentships.
