Sophomore Tutorial

In the spring semester, Sophomore Tutorial (HIST-LIT 97) is cross-listed with Introduction to Cultural Studies (HIST-LIT 10). This course is comprised of a lecture component and a small tutorial section each week. Lectures will cover key methodological and theoretical texts; tutorials will employ these theories in the discussion of a wide variety of historical and cultural primary sources.
To allow plenty of time to explore new interests, History & Literature concentrators do not declare a particular until the end of the sophomore year. Sophomore Tutorials serve as introductions to interdisciplinary methods across the fields, focusing on the development of students' writing, research, and oral communication skills. This discussion-based, reading and writing-intensive course is letter-graded culminates in a Sophomore Essay.
Each sophomore is assigned an academic adviser from History & Literature who will approve the student's course selections. In addition, each sophomore is assigned a concentration adviser who will check in at each step along the way from the first semester in the concentration until graduation, getting to know students and their interests as they develop over time.
Note: HUM 7: Culture in Context also fulfills the Sophomore Tutorial requirement.
