History

The Harvard-Yale football rivalry began on November 13, 1875, at Hamilton Field in New Haven (a 4-0 Harvard win), and was the first rivalry in all of college athletics. The series is the third-most-played in college football history and is now referenced around the country simply as “The Game.”

Football Tickets

The Game 2025 will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the Yale Bowl with kick-off at NOON.  \

Please note that all discounted student tickets are sold out! General Admission tickets can still be purchased on the Yale Athletics site. As a reminder, ticket resale is strictly prohibited**.\ \ If you have questions, please call Harvard Athletics at (617) 495-2211 during business hours.

Transportation

Shuttle tickets are sold out. Students who paid in full can pick up tickets beginning Wednesday, November 5 at the Smith Campus Center booth Tuesday–Saturday between 12-6pm.

• Shuttle Bus Tickets: All internet orders must be picked up in advance at the Harvard Box Office in the Smith Campus Center. There are no e-tickets. The football tickets should be purchased separately.
• Departure and Return Times: Shuttle buses will depart on Friday, November 21 with a small number of buses departing on the morning of Saturday, November 22. All buses will return to campus following the conclusion of The Game on Saturday. Buses will pick up near the Science Center Plaza and will depart directly from the Yale Bowl.
• Accessibility needs: Please contact the Harvard Box Office in advance via e-mail at tickets@fas.harvard.edu if you require accessibility accommodations.
• Personal Transportation: If you are opting to take other transportation to The Game (train, personal vehicle, etc.) please be sure you are doing this safely!

Overnight Housing

As a reminder, Yale College is offering limited overnight housing on Friday night only. Information will be shared via the First-Year Experience Office and each House Committee by Tuesday, November 18, with details about housing assignments, access, and other logistics. Guests should be aware of Yale's residential rules and Harvard's Student Handbook policies.

Please bring overnight bags to The Bowl. Storage is available at Yale’s Coxe Cage for Harvard students. Buses heading back to Cambridge leave directly from the Yale Bowl, so bring all items with you for The Game.

College Events Board (CEB) Spirit Week

The College Events Board (CEB) will be hosting a full week of festivities here on Harvard’s campus in the days leading up to The Game! Beginning on Tuesday, November 18, a wide range of events will take place across our campus to bring our community together and get ready to cheer on the Harvard Crimson. Please log into SOCO, navigate to the Events page, and use the Harvard-Yale Event Tag as a filter to access the CEB events.

Harvard students can use their Harvard Key to log into the Student Organization Center Online and see a list of all events taking place throughout the week. 

First-year students should follow the First Year Social Committee to learn more about a special event just for them. 

Wellness Throughout the Weekend

Whether you’re cheering from the stands or celebrating afterward, we hope your Harvard–Yale weekend is full of connection, care, and great memories. As you make plans for the weekend, remember that wellness and safety go hand in hand - looking out for yourself and others helps everyone enjoy the experience.

If alcohol will be part of your celebration, consider these harm reduction and community care strategies:

• Fuel up first: Eat a good meal before drinking. There will be food available for purchase at Yale Stadium. Consider where you will be getting food and when you will be eating before the day of the game.
• Pace yourself: Aim for about one drink per hour and alternate with water or another non-alcoholic option. Game day is long, so make sure you are spacing your drinks out over the course of the whole day.
• Consider stopping once you’re buzzed: Continuing to drink once you’re intoxicated increases the likelihood of unwanted effects, such as memory loss and vomiting.
• Know your limits: Stick to standard serving sizes and take breaks when you need them. Choosing beer or hard seltzers over hard liquor can help you pace your drinks over time.

Just as we care for our physical well-being, we also care for the emotional and interpersonal safety of our community. Harvard-Yale weekend is a time when large gatherings and alcohol use can intersect with issues of consent, boundaries, and sexual violence prevention.

• Consent is Critical: Like teamwork, clear, enthusiastic, and ongoing consent is essential - on and off the field. When celebrating with friends or new people, ensure that bodily autonomy is respected, boundaries are honored, and everyone has real choices about what’s happening.
• Respect Boundaries: Everyone has the right to feel comfortable and safe, whether at a tailgate, party, or post-game hangout.
• Make a Game Plan: Coordinate with your friends about how you’ll get to events, stick together, and get home safely.
• Be a Team Player: Look out for one another. If you notice someone who seems uncomfortable or something doesn’t look right—such as unwanted touching, pressure to drink more, or isolating someone who appears intoxicated—you can step in and make a difference. Practice being an active bystander. After considering your own safety and position in the situation, your own personal safety, you can choose the best method for you through the 4 Ds of Active Bystander Intervention:
• Direct: Check in with someone involved - “Hey, are you okay?”
• Distract: Create a diversion to interrupt the situation - "Will you come get food with me?”
• Delegate: Get help from a friend, party host, or trusted resource - “Can you check in with them?”
• Delay: Check in privately later - “Can I talk to you about what happened earlier?”

Preparing for Inclement Weather

The 141st playing of the Game at the Yale Bowl will continue as planned, rain or shine. We encourage you to monitor the weather, and to dress appropriately. No umbrellas will be allowed in the stadium during the Game.

Yale Bowl Policies

All persons, bags, and personal items are subject to inspection before entering the stadium

Acceptable Bags:

• Clear tote bags, which can be sized 12'' x 12" x 6" or smaller, will be permitted
• Yale Athletics Official clear bag (12" x 12" x 6") can be purchased at the Yale Bowl for $5.00
• Ziploc bag (1 gallon clear)
• Small hand-held purse (6.5" x 4.5" or smaller and NO STRAP)

Prohibited Bags:

• Backpack
• Purse
• Camera bag
• Binoculars case
• Diaper bag

Fans who bring unauthorized bags to the game will have two options:

• Store bag in personal vehicle
• Use the complimentary bag check service
