The Beneficiary Aid Program provides additional financial assistance to Harvard College students receiving Harvard scholarship who are faced with medical or dental emergency term-time costs that will prove to be an extreme financial hardship. This funding can help to cover a portion of these unforeseeable, non-recurring expenses, with coverage depending on your level of financial need.
Deadline
The application deadline for costs incurred during the 2025-2026 school year is May 31, 2026.
Significant Expenses
If you anticipate incurring significant expenses (such as dental procedures, medical surgery), please contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss your eligibility and estimated Beneficiary Aid coverage.

Types of Costs
-
Medical
Eligible costs include emergency medical attention, required procedures, necessary vaccinations and immunizations, and non-maintenance prescription medication. Further documentation such as a doctor’s note outlining the medical necessity of the treatment/medication may be requested. Long-term maintenance medication and non-medically necessary treatments are not eligible. - #### Dental
Routine and preventative dental procedures (i.e. teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments) are not eligible for this program. We encourage you to reach out to the Harvard Dental Center for your dental needs. Please note that the Harvard University Student Health Program offers an optional dental health insurance program for Harvard students. For questions or concerns regarding impending dental costs and their eligibility for this program, please contact the Financial Aid Office. A doctor’s note may be needed to verify the medical necessity of the treatment received. - #### Optical (eye exam, prescription glasses, contact lenses)
Emergency optical expenses (broken glasses, lost contact lenses) are eligible for Beneficiary Aid funding. The maximum allowance for optical expenses is $300, which is the average cost of an eye exam and one pair of prescription glasses. Optical costs can be submitted for Beneficiary Aid only once during the student’s duration at the College.
