Join the First-Year Social Committee

Looking to make the most of your first year at Harvard? The First-Year Social Committee (FYSC) is here to help! All year long, FYSC plans fun, inclusive events, on campus and around Boston, that bring the first-year class together.

From cheering on the Red Sox, to dancing the night away at First-Year Formal, to making posters for The Game, to celebrating the excitement of Housing Day Eve, FYSC events are all about creating memories with your classmates. Best of all they’re no cost, alcohol-free, and open to everyone in the class!

If you’re a first-year student with ideas, energy, and school spirit, we’d love for you to join us! Check out the application timeline below, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the First-Year Programming Graduate Assistant with any questions or event ideas.

Explore the FYSC Teams

FYSC has three unique teams each with a distinct focus and way to make an impact:

External Relations Committee (ERC): Focused on sharing and connecting. ERC manages social media, promotes events, engages the student community, and gathers feedback to make sure students’ voices are heard.

Internal Operations Committee (IOC): Focused on planning and organizing behind the scenes. IOC keeps the committee running smoothly by managing budgets, schedules, communications, and overall logistics building the framework that allows FYSC to function effectively.

Programming & Events Committee (PEC): Focused on bringing experiences to life. PEC designs and executes events, handling venues, vendors, and event-day logistics to create fun, inclusive, and meaningful experiences for first-year students.

Each team offers the chance to contribute your strengths whether it’s outreach, organization, or event creation!
