# Counting Outside Courses for Concentration Credit

### Cross-Registered Courses

Students wishing to count cross-registered courses at MIT or the graduate schools must submit a [Concentration Credit Petition for Cross-Registered Courses](/file_url/319), signed by the Director of Undergraduate Studies, to the Registrar's Office by the Fifth Monday of the term the course is being taken. No such petition is allowed after that date.

An exception is made for students who successfully petitioned the Registrar to cross-register during their first year, or first-semester sophomores. Retroactive petition is allowed in these cases, and must be filed in the Registrar's Office by the Fifth Monday of their fourth term in residence (usually Sophomore Spring).

If this petition is not submitted, no letter grade will appear for the transfer course in your Academic Advising Report—in which case EAS may not be able to accept it toward your concentration requirements.

### Courses Taken During Study Abroad

Per College policy, you must earn at least a C- in a study abroad course for it to be transfer-eligible. Please see the Office of International Education's [Transfer Credit Policies & Guidelines page](https://oie.fas.harvard.edu/credit-policies) for information on the credit approval process and policies. Study abroad courses, if approved, will be counted for credit only (e.g. 4 credits for one course, 16 credits for a full courseload). Since there will be no letter grade associated, these courses will not count toward your College or Concentration GPA.
