All students are required to take Contemporary Issues in Archaeology (A2251) and Archaeological Theory (A2070) during the fall of their G1 or G2 years (these two courses alternate every fall). Professionalization in Archaeology (A3070) and Pedagogy in Anthropology (A3636) should be taken in the spring of the G2 year.

Students will take the General Exam in January prior to their G2 spring semester. The Qualifying Paper is due in May of the G2 year.

G1, FALL

• 3 additional courses

G1, SPRING

• 4 courses

G1, SUMMER

• First summer predissertation research and/or language study

G2, FALL

• Contemporary Issues in Archaeology (A2251) or Archaeological Theory (A2070) required (alternating biannually)
• 3 additional courses

G2, SPRING

• Professionalization in Archaeology (A3070) required
• Pedagogy in Anthropology (A3636) required
• 3 additional courses
• General Exam (January)
• Qualifying Paper (May)

G2, SUMMER

• Second summer predissertation research

G3, FALL

• Form Dissertation Committee
• Teaching
• Additional coursework if necessary/desired
• Begin writing prospectus

G3, SPRING

• Teaching
• Grant writing
• Submit prospectus and schedule defense
• Present prospectus research in annual Spring Anthropology Prospectus Symposium
