Winter Travel Grants Summer Travel Grant
Beginning in Fall 2023, EAS will award a limited number of Winter Research Travel Grants of up to $2,500 to support concentrators and joint concentrators conducting research in East Asia over the winter recess. This includes, but is not limited to, senior thesis research. "Research" may also refer to specialized courses or training, when there is a compelling academic need to travel abroad for these activities. Applicants must already have declared their concentration (or joint secondary concentration) in EAS at the time of application. Eligibility Open to current EAS concentrators and joint concentrators only. Applicants must be returning to Harvard for at least one semester following the funded activity, and must be in good academic standing at the time of funding. Pre-Travel Requirements Please consult the Office of International Education website for a detailed list of pre-departure requirements. These must be completed before funds can be disbursed. Post-Travel Requirements Grant recipients are required to submit a written report and photos upon completion of their travel which may be used by EAS online and in printed materials. Recipients are expected to act as ambassadors for EAS study abroad, either by giving a short presentation at a study abroad info session, or by meeting periodically with other students interested in traveling to East Asia. Beginning in Spring 2024, EAS will award one Summer Research Travel Grant of up to $4,000 to support a concentrator, joint concentrator, or undergraduate Vietnamese Language Program student conducting research or undertaking a self-organized study abroad program in Vietnam (other underserved regions in East Asia will also be considered in the case of concentrators). This includes, but is not limited to, senior thesis research, language and cultural study, and specialized training, when there is a compelling academic need to travel abroad for these activities. Eligibility Open to current EAS concentrators/joint concentrators and eligible VLP students only.  Concentrators must already have declared their concentration (or joint secondary concentration) in EAS at the time of application. VLP students must be undergraduates currently enrolled in a Vietnamese language course at Harvard with at least one year of language experience (at time of travel), or if not currently enrolled, have completed two years/four courses of Vietnamese language at Harvard. Applicants must be returning to Harvard for at least one semester following the funded activity, and must be in good academic standing at the time of funding.
