Internships and Research Assistantships
Japan
The Reischauer Institute coordinates the Harvard College Japan Summer Internship Program. Since 1988, over 400 Harvard College students have worked in consulting and financial firms, on the campuses of top Japanese universities, in the offices of parliamentary members and NGOs, in leading science labs, and even in a propeller factory, a hotel bakery, and an antiquarian bookstore. Internships last 8 weeks or longer, usually from early June until early August. Preference is given to students enrolled in Japanese language courses and to first-time Japan internship holders. RIJS also curates a list of other recommended internships and programs in Japan.
Korea
Korea Institute Summer Internships in Korea \ This successful internship program will take place between late June and mid-August. As interns, students learn about Korean culture while living and working in Seoul. Undergraduate students from all years of study and all concentrations will be considered. However, very strong preference will be given to returning Harvard students. Internships require significant background in the Korean language (at least 2 years), with a minimum requirement of conversational fluency and higher levels of fluency much preferred. Currently, placements are with the CJ Corporation. Please check the KI Internship webpage for specific internship details and updates.
China
Embark on a transformative journey with the Harvard China Student Internship Program (HCSIP), an eight-week immersive experience placing Harvard undergraduates in corporations, NGOs, and multinational companies across Greater China. HCSIP blends cultural exploration with professional development, offering internships in diverse industries. The program includes a week-long field trip, connecting students with cultural institutions, entrepreneurs, and academics. With a legacy since 2008, HCSIP has become Harvard's largest summer internship initiative. More details can be found on the program website above.
