First-year student overload policy

The standard unit cap for College of Engineering first-year students is 49 units for the fall and spring semesters of their first year. A first-year overload is defined as a schedule with more than 49 units in one semester.  A FY student will be permitted to overload by up to 12 units if they achieve at least a 3.5 fall semester final QPA while carrying at least 40 factorable units. Once final grades are published in late December, the student can contact their advisor, to request the additional units, including what course they are planning to add. All first-year and transfer students are limited to a normal course load in their first semester of attendance.
