Explore information about our academic programs in Computer Science. We offer undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree studies.

Carnegie Mellon University admits undergraduate students into the School of Computer Science, not directly into the Computer Science Department. The admissions application for the bachelor's program is handled by the Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Master's and doctoral programs in the Computer Science Department handle admissions within the department. The School of Computer Science manages the graduate application for both the master's and doctoral degree levels.

Please refer to "How to Apply" under the appropriate degree level below.

Teaching AI-Generated Scenes To Obey Physics

Thursday, March 19, 2026Researchers in Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science have developed a new scene-generation framework that creates physically realistic, simulation-ready 3D scenes from text prompts. Physics-Augmented Text-to-3D Scene (PAT3D) creates final products that not only look convincing but also behave correctly under real-world physical forces. The work could significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create training simulation scenes for applications like robotics and video game design. Read More

Saxena, Saint Phalle Receive Stehlik Scholarship

Wednesday, March 18, 2026Claire de Saint Phalle and Tanisha Saxena both developed their interest in computer science in after-school programs. They learned to build robots and program at early ages, and went on to nurture those interests throughout high school and all the way to Carnegie Mellon University. In May, they'll both cross the School of Computer Science (SCS) graduation stage as recipients of the Stehlik Scholarship. Read More
