# CRC & Research units Research consortia

COS Heidelberg is part of international research networks and our employees cooperate with numerous other scientists and research institutions in Germany and abroad. Beyond the level of individual cooperation, we participate in research consortia funded by a wide variety of donors with numerous projects.

The Centre for Organismal Studies Heidelberg (COS) currently hosts four research consortia (Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) and Research Units (RU)) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

## CRC 1324

The research program of the CRC “Mechanisms and functions of Wnt signaling” focuses on a fundamental signaling pathway, which is specific for animals including humans, and which is acting in development and disease. The CRC covers two overarching topics: (A) the trafficking and secretion of Wnt-molecules and the responses to receptor-ligand interactions and (B) Wnt coupling to downstream and context-dependent signaling.

## RU 2509

The DFG research unit “The concert of dolichol-based glycosylation: from molecules to disease models” aims at understanding the complexity of glycosylation disorders by deciphering the details of various glycosylation pathways, as well as the precise conditions for their interconnections.

## RU 2581

The DFG research unit “Quantitative Morphodynamics of Plants” includes researchers from the fields of developmental biology, computer science and physics to obtain a quantitative understanding of how plant organs and tissue are formed.

## Cooperation with NIBB, Japan

To promote intellectual, educational and technological exchange in the field of molecular organismal biology, the National Institute for Basic Biology (Okazaki, Japan) and the Center for Organismal Studies, Heidelberg (Germany), have agreed to a framework of academic cooperation. The cooperation includes joint appointments of group leaders, collaborative projects, student exchange, as well as regular joint symposia and workshops.

## CRC 873

The long-term goal of the CRC “Maintenance and Differentiation of Stem Cells in Development and Disease" is to define the regulatory principles underlying the balance between maintenance, expansion and differentiation of stem cells in diverse systems on a mechanistic level.
