## Requirements
- **Degree Requirements**
Admission as a doctoral candidate generally requires the successful completion of a Master's degree program at a university. If the degree was not obtained in the subject in which the dissertation is to be written, proof of sufficient subject-specific knowledge must be provided (§ 4 of the Doctoral Regulations). More detailed information can be found in the Doctoral Regulations.
- **Language Requirements**
If the applicant’s native language is not German or English, sufficient proficiency in either language must be demonstrated.
- **Supervision and Workplace**
Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences are generally to be supervised by a professor or a habilitated member of the faculty. The workplace may also be located outside the university facilities. A supervision agreement must be concluded with the designated supervisor.

## Admission Procedure
- **Online Registration**
Before submitting an application, an online registration at Heidelberg University is required. This is done via the online doctoral file system heiDOCS. Please fill out pages 1 to 3.
- **Application for Admission**
The application for admission as a doctoral candidate must be submitted to the faculty’s Dean’s Office using the designated form **before** beginning the research work. The application can only be submitted in conjunction with a supervision agreement. The application must also include proof of academic degrees, a copy of the ID card, and, if applicable, additional documents.
- **Decision on Admission**
The Doctoral Committee of the faculty decides on the admission as a doctoral candidate. Once admission has been granted by the faculty, it is generally valid for an initial period of three years. It may be extended upon a justified request. Admission to the doctoral examination procedure must be applied for separately.
- **Enrollment**
All admitted doctoral candidates are legally required to enroll for the duration of their doctoral studies until the oral doctoral examination is completed. An exemption from this enrollment obligation is possible for employees of the university or the university hospital.
