# Promotionsprogramme an der Universität Heidelberg

## ​​Strukturierte Promotionsprogramme – allgemeine Informationen

Die Universität Heidelberg hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, in allen Wissenschaftsbereichen Elemente der strukturierten Promotion zu fördern und die Einführung und Weiterentwicklung von Graduiertenschulen, Graduiertenkollegs und ähnlichen "strukturierten Promotionsprogrammen" zu unterstützen. Damit folgt sie den [Empfehlungen des Wissenschaftsrates](https://www.wissenschaftsrat.de/download/archiv/5459-02.pdf) (2002) und der [Hochschulrektorenkonferenz](https://www.hrk.de/fileadmin/_migrated/content_uploads/Promotion.pdf) (2003) zur Heranbildung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.

An der Universität Heidelberg gibt es derzeit mehr als 40 strukturierte Promotionsprogramme mit einem breiten Spektrum und variabler Intensität bezüglich der verschiedenen strukturierenden Elemente. Vor allem in den Natur- und Lebenswissenschaften haben sich strukturierte Programme schwerpunktmäßig etabliert; auch in den Geistes-, Sozial-, und Rechtswissenschaften, deren traditionelles Modell die sogenannte [Individualpromotion](https://www.graduateacademy.uni-heidelberg.de/promovieren/promovieren.html) ist, entwickeln sich zunehmend strukturierte Programme.

## ​Strukturierte Promotionsprogramme in Heidelberg

### Allgemeine Informationen

In Heidelberg wird zwischen **drei Formen strukturierter Promotionsprogramme** unterschieden:

- **Graduiertenschulen** – Große Einrichtungen mit 100–200 Promovierenden, welche breite Forschungsbereiche abdecken.\
- **Graduiertenkollegs** – Mittelgroße Einrichtungen mit 15–30 Promovierenden. Die individuellen Dissertationsthemen sind häufig in unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen und Fakultäten angesiedelt, wobei sich deren thematische Ausrichtung auf einen definierten Themenkomplex fokussiert.\
- **Promotionskollegs** – Kleinere Einrichtungen mit fünf bis sieben Promovierenden, welche sich mit sehr speziellen wissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen beschäftigen.

The Heidelberg Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HGGS) provides a structured doctoral programme to foster innovative, interdisciplinary research projects in the humanities, social sciences and law. Its three-year programme combines traditional and new approaches in supporting graduate research through specialist seminars and workshops. International candidates benefit from a tailor-made support programme. The HGGS awards short-term grants and full scholarships to qualified applicants.​

#### Integrated doctoral programme between the Institute of European Art History of Heidelberg University and the Ecole du Louvre Paris

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is a three-year doctoral programme within the interdisciplinary research environment of the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS).

It combines the German model of highly individualised doctoral studies and a system of guided courses and workshops. Doctoral students become part of a vibrant community of international scholars and are trained in transcultural theories, interdisciplinary approaches, and methods from the participating disciplines (anthropology, archaeology, art history, Chinese studies, history, South Asian Studies, etc.).

Applicants must hold an above-average university degree in a discipline related to those involved at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies and have a high proficiency in English.
