Registration for a module exam is required and binding. You always log in with your personal tub-Account. Physics or Historical Urban Studies students log in via SAP tuPORT-Portal; students in all other study courses use Moses and select "MTS / Module exams registration/deregistration" after logging in. If your module exam is not to be registered via MTS or SAP, register the exam with the department using the registration form.
Registration periods
The registration period for module examinations generally begins 15 April for the summer semester and 15 October for the winter semester. As a general the Examiners set the registration deadline, if they do not the deadline:
- for written examinations is one week before the exam date,
- for portfolio assessments it is latest the day before the exam date/first component, in general 31 May for the summer semester and 30 November for the winter semester.
If you missed the registration period, you can submit a late registration.
Examinations that have not been registered are deemed not to have been carried out and will not be assessed.

De-registration from a module examination
You can de-register from an exam without providing a reason up to three days before the written and oral exam, up to one day befor the first component of portfolio. For other examinations, for example homework, the examiners determine the deregistration deadline.
Withdrawal the day of examination
If deregistration is no longer possible (three days befor written or oral exam date or one day befor the first first component in Portfolio-Exam), students may withdraw. They must always submit proof of the reason for their withdrawal request (Section 63 (6)). Withdrawal must be submitted to the examiner and the examination office on the day of the exam (befor the beginning) at the latest. To withdraw, for example due to illness, you must submit the form for de-registration and withdrawal including the reasons for withdrawal and the corresponding necessary documentation (Attest). You can use the TUB_Attest (the withdrawal form is not necessary). The documents must be submitted to your examination team no later than five days after the exam date. Certificates created for a fee by online vendors will not be accepted.
If you are ill for individual portfolio elements, please notify the examiners in advance and send the certificate to your examination team.
Repeated withdrawal from an exam due to illness
Depending on the module examination, withdrawal the day of an examination due to illness is permitted a maximum of two times with a sick note (Attest). Should this happen a third time, the relevant examination board for your degree program will make a decision regarding your inability to take the exam on the basis of the doctor’s information. The rule applies regardless of which attempt (first, second, last) and regardless of whether the withdrawals due to illness are successive.
Withdrawal from an exam due to illness of a child
If your child’s illness causes you to withdraw the day of the exam, then you must submit a sick note for your child in addition to the form Withdrawal of Registration for an Examination.
Such withdrawals are not counted towards the multiple sickness-related withdrawals rule for an examination.

Retaking attempts
If you fail a module examination, you are permitted two retest attempts pursuant to Section 70 of the General Study and Examination Regulations of TU Berlin. The first retest attempt for an examination is to be in the same format as the initial failed exam.
The second retest attempt is an oral exam and must be registered in your responsible examination team using the examination registration form after making an appointment and before taking the examination.
Failed theses can also be repeated twice (Attention: BerlHG regulation deviates from § 60 Abs. 10 AllgStuPO, BerlHG has priority).
Additional examination attempt after consulting the course guidance
Due to § 30 Abs. 4 S. 1 BerlHG, students receive one additional examination attempt per module if they have participated in a course advising session. This does not apply to the final thesis.
Until this requirement has been defined in the AllgStuPO, the regulation at the TU Berlin will be implemented as follows on a transitional basis.
- The faculties determine which person(s) is responsible for this academic advising. Students choose the contact person according to the degree program in which they are enrolled. The following list is continuously updated:
- Fak I: chair of the examination board and professorial deputies
- Fak II: for students in Bachelor and Master Physics Prof. Breitschwerdt and Marten Richter,\ for mathematical programs Prof. Dr. Tobias Breiten (Substitute Dr. Jan Zur)\ for all other study programs of Faculty II - Mr. Marcel König
- Fak III: Examination board of the respective study program in which the student is enrolled
- Fak IV: Office of Academic and Student Affairs
- Fak V: Office of Academic and Student Affairs
- Fak VI: the chairs of the examination boards
- Fak VII: Mrs. Dagmar Bauer pruefungsausschuss(at)wm.tu-berlin.de
- SETUB: Mrs. Jana Huck
- GkWi: info(at)gkwi.tu-berlin.de
- The subject advising takes place if three examinations in a module have not been passed; free attempts are not counted.
- You will receive a notification from the Examinations Office about the failed third examination, which will include a date for the threatened de-registration.
- Proof of the date of attendance at the subject-specific consultation for the 4th examination attempt must be submitted to the office responsible for examinations no later than three working days before the threatened de-registration. Exmatriculation will be suspended if proof is provided on time. If the date for the consultation is not proven within the specified period, the entitlement to a further examination attempt expires; the module is then deemed to have been definitively failed.
Repeat examination deadlines
The AllgStuPO does not provide for repeat deadlines. Please note that failed exams must still be retaken to earn a degree.
Free attempt
Failed first examinations during the first degree semester of bachelor's degree programs are not recorded. These examinations do not have to be repeated if they are compulsory electives oder electives. See § 70 (7) Allgemeine Studien- und Prüfungsordnung.
Replacement of a module examination
Module examinations that were not passed in the first or second attempt from the elective or compulsory elective area can be replaced by another module from the same area.
To do so, use the form Declaration Concerning the Exchange of a Failed Module Examination and submit it to the Examinations Office at your examination team.
The notification of the exchange must be made no later than the registration for the examination that replaces it. \ See Section 70 (6) of the General Study and Examination Regulations.

What is recognition?
Recognition refers to the process of reviewing the integration of academic achievements and examinations from domestic and foreign universities into a degree program at TU Berlin. If there are no significant differences, the TU module will be recorded as completed after recognition and marked on the transcript.
How do I apply for recognition?
Fill out the fields under “1. Personal details” and the first columns (including “Recognition in module group”) under “2. Performance to be recognized” on the application form in full. Please enter all information about the completed module as it appears on your transcript or similar document, i.e., do not convert grades. If there are not enough lines, add more and sign under “3. Declaration.” Recognition is usually granted on a module-by-module basis.
Read the instructions for the application and check the website of the examination board (or, alternatively, the website of the student academic advisory service) for your degree program to find out whether the opinion of the TU professor should be obtained in advance.
If you only want to have free elective modules recognized, it is sufficient to send the application directly to your responsible examination team. Recognition is not possible for additional modules.
Once the application has been completed in full, it is submitted to the examination board responsible for your degree program (not the Examinations Office). The content is assessed, taking into account the opinion of the subject professor, if applicable. A decision is then made and communicated to the Examinations Office.
Evidence and Decision
From the outset, include evidence of all achievements (degree certificates, references, subject and grade lists, transcripts, module descriptions, etc.) with your application, as well as a learning agreement if available. The subject professor and examination board require this evidence in order to make a decision on the content.
The burden of proof for non-recognition of your credits lies with TU Berlin. In this case, you will receive written notification from the Examinations Office.
Note: According to § 61 (8) AllgStuPO, you are required to provide sufficient information about the credit to be recognized or credited. The evidence must provide clear information about the skills acquired and the issuing institution. Please submit the evidence as an officially certified copy (with official seal) or document with an electronic verification code or electronic signature. Module descriptions that serve to explain the completed achievements do not need to be certified.
Announcement of the decision
The team responsible for your degree program in the Examinations Department will record the positive decisions in your account. The TU module will be recorded as completed, which, according to the decision of the examination board, is comparable to the performance achieved. Once recorded in the student account, the module becomes an irrevocable part of the degree program.
Rejection decisions will be communicated to you in writing, stating the reasons. Recognition may only be refused if there are significant differences between the course and the TU module, or if you are already in the examination process for the TU module. The recognition of professional experience may only be rejected if there is no equivalence to the module content, if you exceed the upper limit of 50% of the study content to be replaced, or if you are already in the examination process for the TU module. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
If applications have been rejected in whole or in part, it is possible to lodge an appeal in accordance with Section 50(7) of the General Student Admission Regulations (AllgStuPO).
