The times when researchers worked alone in ivory towers are long over. Many complex problems can only be solved by working in collaboration with others. As a result, research consortia are growing in importance all over the world. Technische Universität Berlin is one of Germany’s leading research universities. Its international renown and unique profile as a university of technology that incorporates the humanities, social sciences, planning sciences, and economics are strong factors for its successful interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. The fruits of this approach are clearly demonstrated in the University’s many collaborative research projects. Whether at regional, national, or international level, Technische Universität Berlin is involved in many scientific networks.
Interested in setting up your own research consortium as a member of Technische Universität Berlin? The [Research Promotion Section](https://www.tu.berlin/forschungsservice "Website of the Research Promotion Section") provides guidance and support in developing ideas, establishing consortia, and drafting applications with data-based strategic analyses (research analytics), tailored workshops, and individual advice on submitting applications, how to meet requirements, and good practices. You can find an overview of all available [services for initiating a research consortium project here](https://www.tu.berlin/en/forschung/research/research-consortia/default-54c1fda0936f9b24e96db2243bdd6dfc).

### Research consortia funded by the German Research Foundation
To qualify for funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG), research consortium projects have to demonstrate both scientific quality and originality. TU Berlin is the coordinating university for a number of DFG research consortia.
### Research consortia with federal or state funding
TU Berlin leads a number of research consortia developing innovations for challenges that are a priority for national policy. The University is also involved in a number of research consortia with funding from the State of Berlin, such as the Einstein Centers.
### Research consortia funded by the European Union
Projects with EU funding (Horizon Europe) address global challenges as well as the industrial competitiveness of Europe. TU Berlin is responsible for coordinating many EU-funded research consortia.
### Clusters of Excellence
Clusters of Excellence are internationally competitive research fields funded on a project basis as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. There are three Clusters of Excellence at TU Berlin.
### Berlin University Alliance (BUA)
The Berlin University Alliance, the consortium of excellence of TU Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, was established in 2019.
### Interested in starting a research consortium?
TU Berlin provides data-based strategic analyses, method-guided workshops, seed funding, and advice to help scientists looking to initiate a collaborative research project identify priorities, develop ideas, put together their consortium, and submit proposals.
