From summer semester 2025, the digital Deutschlandsemesterticket will be issued by S-Bahn Berlin.

Students will be able to use this ticket for local public transport (öffentlicher Nahverkehr) in Germany. It is valid for one semester. Regulations on the area of validity (Geltungsbereich) can be found on the websites of S-Bahn Berlin.

Current information on the Deutschlandsemesterticket can be found on the website of the Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss.

The Deutschlandsemesterticket is a mobile phone ticket. It is only available via the app of S-Bahn Berlin and is only valid in the app. A screenshot is not sufficient for inspection purposes. Therefore, please always ensure that you can access the ticket in the app.\ CURRENT NOTE: There is a web-based tool circulating for converting tickets into wallet tickets. This is NOT valid. Only the official digital Deutschlandsemesterticket in the app of S-Bahn Berlin is recognized as valid.

How do I get the Deutschlandsemesterticket?

The Deutschlandsemesterticket is a digital semester ticket. It is only valid in combination with an official photo ID.

Account Activation You can only activate the ticket if you have already completed your account activation in the TU portal (tuPORT). This includes, for example, setting up a TU email address and a username. Please note that the TU email address must be used for every login. For some students, forwarding to private email addresses leads to problems! Therefore, please use your TU inbox directly. The ticket must be ordered anew for every semester!

Registration Steps for TU Berlin Students Registration consists of two steps:

  1. Order via the website: "Abo-Online" portal
  2. Install the S-Bahn Berlin app: Download it via the Google Play Store. You can find instructions for this process under Order Process B– on the S-Bahn Berlin website.

Please note that only the official S-Bahn app is recognized as valid. Screenshots or other apps do not count as a valid ticket.

After you have completed both steps, you can view your ticket in the S-Bahn Berlin app. However, according to the S-Bahn, this can take up to 72 hours.

S-Bahn Berlin Recommendations The mobile ticket will only be accessible in the app 1 to 7 days before the start of the semester. We recommend installing the S-Bahn Berlin app a maximum of 2 weeks before the start of the semester to directly account for any updates. Furthermore, it is generally highly recommended to set app updates to install automatically.

I have technical difficulties activating my Deutschlandsemesterticket

You must log in with your user account. It is not possible to log in with an applicant account. (Applicant accounts can be identified by a "BEW_" in the name.)

First, you must log in to the website https://www.abo-antrag.de/de/Studium, order the ticket, and then download the app for your mobile phone. After placing your order successfully, you will receive a confirmation email. However, it may take up to 72 hours for the ticket to appear in your S-Bahn App. A detailed tutorialVariant B, can be found under “Order” on the website of S-Bahn Berlin. Answers to the most frequently asked questions can also be found on the website of S-Bahn Berlin.

Please make sure to use your TU email address for every login. For some students, forwarding emails to private addresses can cause issues—so be sure to check your TU inbox directly.

You can reach the support team of S-Bahn Berlin at: https://sbahn.berlin/en/contact/contact-form-german-semester-ticket/

Why can't I see my Deutschlandsemesterticket?

This includes, for example, having already set up a TU email address and a username. Students who were already enrolled must also reorder the ticket using the link before it will appear in the app. Your mobile phone must be turned on and connected to the internet so that the travel authorization can be delivered. You can find information about the contract regulations of the Deutschlandsemesterticket on the websites of S-Bahn Berlin.

Do I have to take the ticket?

According to the information currently available, all enrolled students are obliged to purchase a semester ticket. The following groups are currently excluded from the semester ticket, even if they would like to have a semester ticket; no semester ticket fee is therefore charged for these groups:

Is there anything to keep in mind if I was de-registered or on a leave of absence?

If you were temporarily de-registered or on a leave of absence (and this has been reversed), you must reorder your ticket at https://www.abo-antrag.de/de/Studium and absolutely must log in again to the S-Bahn app before using the ticket!

After a successful order, you will receive an email; however, it can take up to 72 hours before the ticket is visible in your S-Bahn app.

If you are permanently de-registered and wish to request a refund for your ticket, please note the following: The ticket can only be refunded for full months. You should take this into account when choosing the application date for your de-registration.
