# TU Berlin's Clusters of Excellence

All three TU Berlin Clusters of Excellence have submitted renewal proposals for further funding in the second competition round. Technische Universität Berlin is also a co-applicant in the full proposal for the new cluster initiative of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Freie Universität Berlin – “INTERACT: INTER-OrgAn TrajeCTories to Multimorbidity.” The funding decision for Clusters of Excellence will be announced on 22 May 2025.

In September 2018, TU Berlin achieved major success in the first round of the Excellence Strategy with three Clusters of Excellence achieved either as sole applicant or as applicant university as part of a consortium proposal.

Beginning 2019, the three interdisciplinary research projects **“Unifying Systems in Catalysis” (UniSysCat)**, **“Science of Intelligence” (SCIoI)**, and **“MATH+”** will be funded for a period of seven years with up to ten million euros annually. It will then be decided by means of a renewal proposal whether to extend funding for a further seven years. Technische Universität Berlin is also part of the Cluster of Excellence “Matters of Activity: Image Space Material" hosted by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

### Unifying Systems in Catalysis (UniSysCat) - learning to understand and use catalysis networks

Catalysis is a key technology indispensable to resource-efficient and sustainable chemistry. In the UniSysCat Cluster of Excellence, the coupling of several catalytic reactions to networks in chemical and biological catalysis in space and time is to be enabled and decoded in order to be able to control and simulate them.

### MATH+ - how Berlin mathematics is shaping the future

In the MATH+ Cluster of Excellence, scientists develop innovative techniques and theories in application-oriented mathematics. Particular focus is placed on mathematical foundations to use increasingly large data quantities in life and material science, energy and network research, and the humanities and social sciences.
