If you have completed coursework and examinations in a current or previous degree program that are eligible for credit transfer, you have the option of applying for or enrolling in a higher semester of another degree program.

To do so, you will always need a current degree semester placement. For applications for the winter semester, this must be issued on or after 1 April of the year. For applications for the summer semester, it must be issued on or after 1 October of the previous year

How do I get a degree semester placement?

Submit the two forms "Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part A) – Degree Semester Placement" and "(Part B)" along with proof of all study and examination credits you have earned to the respective examination board of TU Berlin and request placement in a degree semester. It can take some time to process your application.

Please contact the examination board in good time; the confirmation of your degree semester placement must be submitted before the application deadline expires. You can find the examination board for your program on the respective degree program profile (https://www.tu.berlin/en/go144/ –> select the program you are applying for).\ The semester placement must be current. For applications for the winter semester, it must be issued from 1 April of the year. For applications for the summer semester, it must be issued from 1 October of the previous year.

Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part A) – Degree Semester Placement\ Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part B)\ \ The examination board will place you in a specific degree semester based on the credits you have already earned. Once you have your placement, you can apply for the respective degree semester.

The reviewed Application for Recognition (Part A) must bear the stamp and signature of the examination board or a digital signature of the examination board.

If you are placed in a degree semester for which there are no courses offered in the semester you are applying for, you will be considered for admission/enrollment to the semester immediately below as an alternative. It is not possible to enroll in the first degree semester.

If you are a re-registrant (re-enrolling at TU Berlin) and have been placed in the first degree semester, you can only apply for/enroll in the first degree semester.

The Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part B) and proof of all the credits you have thus far acquired are kept by the respective examination board at Technische Universität Berlin.

Please note any special submission deadlines set by the examination boards.

How can I re-enroll at TU Berlin?

If you were previously enrolled at TU Berlin and would like to apply for or enroll in the same degree program with the same study and examination regulations, then you are considered a re-registrant.\ Re-enrollment in the same degree program is only possible after an interruption. Interruption means that there is a period between de-registration and re-enrollment and that an application is made at a time when no enrollment in the degree program is active.

If you wish to continue your studies without interruption, only re-registration is possible.

Re-registrants always need a degree semester placement from the relevant examination board at TU Berlin:

Please note: If you receive a degree semester placement for the second degree semester or higher, you cannot enroll in the first degree semester and your admission will become invalid. If you never started the program, you can upload a current "Übersicht über alle Leistungen" (overview of all credits earned) from TU Berlin instead of the degree semester placement. This document confirms that you are entitled to take exams and have not yet obtained any credits. Please contact the Examination Office in this case.

All information on how to obtain a degree semester placement for re-enrollment can be found at the top of this webpage.

Do you have a "definitively failed examination" in your student record?

If you have definitively failed an examination at a German third-level institution during your studies to date, the examination board must determine in the "Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part C) – Clarification of Definitively Failed Examination(s)" that the definitively failed examination is not a reason to deny your application to the program. \ The decision by the examination board must be current. For applications for the winter semester, it must be issued from 1 April of the year. For applications for the summer semester, it must be issued from 1 October of the previous year.

Application for Recognition of Previously Obtained Credits (Part C). To be considered for admission, you must submit this application form along with the form for Part B and all required supporting documents – fully completed and signed – to the examination board of the degree program at TU Berlin you are applying for. The examination board then decides whether or not the definitely failed examination is a reason to deny your application.\ \ The reviewed Application for Recognition (Part C) must bear the stamp and signature of the examination board or a digital signature from the examination board.\ \ The Application for Recognition (Part C) with the current decision by the examination board must be uploaded to the TU portal (tuPORT) within the enrollment period.

Please note any special submission deadlines set by the examination boards.
