Global Markets, Local Creativities (Erasmus Mundus International Master) IntM

The International Master in Global Markets, Local Creativities is an integrated, international programme comprising the history, theory, institutions and cultures of global capitalism. It provides perspectives on the globalised economy, focusing on creative and cultural economies/industries, urban ecosystems that foster entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, and business cultures.

Why this programme

Programme structure

This is a two-year degree taught through a mix of lectures and seminars. You will take between eight and ten core and around eight optional courses, depending on which pathway you choose. The programme also includes opportunities for internships and industrial placements.

All teaching is in English; recommended additional language study is encouraged throughout the two-year programme.

Career prospects

The intertwining of academic analysis and practical engagement will provide a valuable range of well-rounded skills and experiences that develop active and informed graduates capable of operating at strategic levels in NGO and third-sector agencies, local economic development organisations, policy analysis and lobbying groups and corporations, or of undertaking further study. The programme is designed for students with a diverse range of prior knowledge and interests and will develop their understanding of the process, impact and responses to globalisation.

The fees charged to students reflect the fee and funding regime established by the European Commission in respect of Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree programmes.  This means that, for this programme, fees paid by Programme Country students (EU, EEA [Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein] and ERASMUS associated countries [Turkey, FYR Macedonia, Serbia]) are the same as those paid by UK students.

The fees listed here cover tuition only. The University of Glasgow can only collect fees in Pound Sterling at the published GBP values and subject to exchange rates at the time of payment. As the programme contains various mobility periods, students (funded and self-funded) will need to cover their own airfares between each chosen partner.

Deposits

All applicants are required to pay a deposit of £2,000 when an offer is made.

Deposits: terms & conditions

The following guidelines will apply in determining whether a deposit will be refunded. Where the deposit is refunded, a 25% administration fee will be deducted unless otherwise stated.

a: Deposits WILL be refunded to applicants under the following circumstances:

  1. Where the University is unable to offer you a place on the programme as specified on the offer. A full refund will be issued in this case.
  2. Death of a close family member (parent/guardian, grandparent, sibling, spouse, child/dependent). Official evidence (signed and stamped) must be provided.
  3. SERIOUS ill health of the applicant or a close family member (parent/guardian, grandparent, sibling, spouse, child/dependent). Official evidence (signed and stamped) must be provided.
  4. Applicant does not meet conditions of offer. This may be academic or language test requirements. Satisfactory evidence must be uploaded to the student’s applicant self-service to prove that they have not met the conditions of their offer (note that applicants who do not meet the language condition of their offer must show reasonable attempt to meet this, i.e. they must provide at least two language tests which were taken after the date the deposit was paid).
  5. Visa / ATAS refusal: we will only consider a refund if the visa / ATAS refusal was based on matters outside of the applicant’s control.
  6. If a refund request is received within 14 days of the deposit being received a full refund will be issued under the Consumer Protection Regulations.

b: Deposits WILL NOT be refunded to applicants under the following circumstances:

  1. An applicant decides not to attend the University for any reason not outlined above.
  2. Personal financial constraints / unsuccessful scholarship application.
  3. Applicant has decided to defer – in this situation the University will retain the deposit and hold it against the applicant’s account to secure their place for the following year of entry. You may defer twice. After the second deferral standard conditions will apply.
  4. There is still time to meet the English language test requirement before the final upload date. Please see section a) 4.
  5. Visa / ATAS was applied for too late. Please see section a) 5.
  6. Any documents used for admission are proven to be fraudulent. We work in partnership with Qualification Check to check academic qualifications. English language qualifications are verified with the provider.
  7. The refund request is received more than 30 days after the official course start date as outlined in your offer email.

Timeframe for requesting a refund

Refund requests must be received no later than 30 days after the official course start date as outlined in your offer email. As per section b)7 above the request will be denied.

Receiving a refund

  1. To comply with Money Laundering Regulations, the University will pay all refunds to the original payer using the source payment details. This is known as a “return to source” payment.
  2. All appropriate documentation and evidence relating to the original payment must be provided, when requested.
  3. All payments and refunds are in GBP currency - the University is not responsible for any exchange rate fluctuations or beneficiary bank charges associated with the refund.
  4. Where University approved payment methods have not been used, this may cause significant delays or prevent payment altogether.
  5. We will aim to issue the deposit refund within 8 weeks of receipt of information per point 2 above. At peak times this may be longer.

Banco de Mexico

The Mexican National Bank (Banco de Mexico) provides special loans for students who wish to undertake a programme of postgraduate study. The University of Glasgow in partnership with Bank of Mexico FIDERH is offering a fee discount to holders of a Bank of Mexico FIDERH loan. See the FIDERH website for further information.

ANID (la Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo)

The University of Glasgow offers a 25% discount to all successful ANID scholars who enrol at the University of Glasgow to complete a postgraduate programme.

Entry requirements

A strict 2:1 UK Honours degree or international equivalent in Anthropology, Business (including Business and Entrepreneurship, Business History, Business Philosophy, and/or Business Strategy), Economics. (including Economic Development, Economic History and Economic Philosophy), Global Business Marketing, Global Governance, Global Studies, History, International Business, International Relations/Studies, Liberal Arts, Literature, Philosophy, Political Sciences, Psychology, Regional History (where applicable to regional studies within GLOCAL study tracks), Sociology, Social Policy (at Masters level only), Sustainability, Trade, and Urban Policy/Studies.\ \ \ NB: Applicants to study tracks B, F and I (attending Georg-August-Universität Göttingen) must have completed a minimum of 1/4 of their studies (or 60 ECTS credits) with modules / courses in either Economics, Business, Modern History, Economic & Social History, Sociology or Politics or a combination thereof.\ \ Please also note that Track H is not currently open for applications.

Applicants must provide either a Scholarship application form or Self-Funded application form depending on their application.

Please note that the list of accepted subjects is a guide - it is up to the applicant to make the case that their previous experience and studies qualify them for the programme and study track to which they have applied. The GLOCAL team cannot provide personalised guidance on an applicant’s eligibility for the programme or their suitability for any particular study track.

Applicants are only permitted to apply to one GLOCAL programme Track.

For applicants from non-English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Government, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

Tests are accepted for 2 years following date of successful completion.

Alternatives to English Language qualification

For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use these tests to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level programmes. The University is also able to accept UKVI approved Secure English Language Tests (SELT) but we do not require a specific UKVI SELT for degree level programmes. We therefore still accept any of the English tests listed for admission to this programme.
