Short Description

This course enables students to design a small-scale qualitative study that examines a topic related to communities. The course also supports students to complete an ethics application and produce related documents, such as participant information sheets, consent forms, interview questions and focus group design.

Assignment 1 - Oral Presentation outlining Research Topic, Methods, and Participants (20%)

Assignment 2 - Reflection on ethics challenges (80%)

Course Aims

The overall aim of the course is to enable students to understand the requirements of undertaking an ethical, qualitative, research project in a community context.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

LO1 Design a community-based research topic, with research methods that clearly align\ LO2 Outline the key elements of a small-scale, qualitative research projects\ LO3 Produce a coherent Ethics Application, with associated documents

LO4 Articulate the importance of an ethical approach to small-scale research projects with communities

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
