Borrow reusable containers at several eateries at UiO

Hooray! Finally, you can borrow reusable containers at several of our eateries. Since April 2024, we have been testing reusable containers at Frederikke eatery, UiO, and the feedback has been positive. It's exciting that you can now borrow reusable containers for free at several of our dining locations:

• Helga eatery
• Sverdrup eatery
• Ole - Johan eatery
• Medica eatery

Why use reusable containers when taking your food to go?

In 2024, 182,000 single-use containers were used for buffets at SiO Mat og Drikke. We want to reduce the use of single-use containers, and are therefore testing reusable containers at several dining locations.

We believe the dining experience is better with a reusable container. Additionally, it is airtight and can withstand being carried in a backpack if you don't finish your meal immediately.

Advantages of using reusable containers:

• Food stays fresher in reusable containers
• Reusable container = a container that can be used multiple times
• The lid fits securely on the container and can be carried in a backpack without spilling
• Using reusable packaging reduces waste, which would otherwise be incinerated and contribute to direct local greenhouse gas emissions*
• Soiled paper/bagasse cannot be recycled as paper, as food and grease are not desired in paper sorting, and therefore must go in residual waste. In other words, it is not a circular product

How can i borrow a reusable container?

• Take a reusable container
• Place the reusable container with the lid on the gray plate
• Tap your card on the terminal
• Help yourself to the buffet
• Choose "grønn buffet flergangsboks" (green buffet reusable container) or "buffet flergangsboks" (buffet reusable container) and pay
• PS: Remember to remove the lid before the reusable container is weighed

Where can I return the reusable container?

The reusable container is returned in the green machine located at the eateries where you borrowed the container:

• Sverdrup eatery
• Ole - Johan eatery
• Medica eatery

Is it free to borrow the reusable container?

The reusable container is free to borrow as long as you return it within 14 days.

• If you return it late or fail to return it, you will be charged NOK 70, but then the container is yours
