# English proficiency requirements for bilateral exchange students

A good command of English is required of all students attending the University of Oslo.

Students nominated on bilateral agreements who are not native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English.

## Requirement for courses on bachelor level

**IELTS academic - International English Language Testing System**

Minimum score: 5.0

**TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test (iBT)**

Minimum score: 60

- UiO accepts the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition.
- UiO does not accept TOEFL MyBest Score to meet our English language requirements.

### Exemptions

Applicants from some countries will have an adequate command of English and satisfy this requirement with the English they have taken at secondary school in their home country.

## Requirement for courses on master level

Minimum score: 6.5

**TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test (iBT)**

Minimum score: 90

This includes TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. We do not accept TOEFL MyBest Score to meet our English language requirements.

## Requirement for Erasmus students

In general, Erasmus+ students do not have to provide documentation of language proficiency. Please contact your university's Erasmus+ coordinator or international office for information about the requirements for the agreement in question.
