Guiding Principles for Blended Education

These guiding principles present a set of collective aspirations and values informing future practice and development. These common themes can be used to align collaborative work and inform further iteration of teaching, learning, and assessment at Cambridge. The practical approach to applying these principles will vary depending on the needs of students, staff, and subject and will be supported through the strategic priorities detailed later.

a. Learning experiences designed with inclusivity and equity\ Agree upon sustainable baselines for quality and inclusivity enabling all students to engage fully with their education


b. Diverse approaches to teaching\ Enable academic freedom and creativity in devising approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment that are most effective in supporting the wide variety of staff, students, and disciplines at Cambridge


c. Effective support and training\ Provide on-demand resource and live training opportunities supporting staff and students to further develop necessary skills and competencies remaining relevant to disciplinary change in teaching, learning, and assessment


d. Clear communication and systems for feedback \ Devise reliable networks that enable streamlined communication and opportunities to gather feedback from staff and students better informing development procedures


e. Interdisciplinary sharing and collaboration \ Enable opportunities for staff and students to engage with peers across various subjects opening the way for creative collaboration and sharing of ideas


f. Connected and cohesive learning experiences \ Ensure that the variety of available learning experiences are clearly communicated to students so they may make the most of every opportunity


g. Iterative approaches to the development of teaching, learning and assessment \ Facilitate development of educational practice and encourage all to consider long term progress, providing ongoing support to respond effectively to changing needs
