Governance and organisation
- The three-member Executive Board is responsible for University's general management.
- The Supervisory Board oversees university governance and advises the Executive Board.
- The Executive Staff support the Executive Board. The Executive Staff's main tasks are to formulate the University's strategic policy, to set frameworks and to provide operational steering and first-line control.
- The role of the shared service units is to carry out all the support processes within the University.

- Faculty teaching activities are organised in Colleges (Bachelor’s) and Graduate Schools (Master's).

Councils, committees and advisory
- Students and staff participate in decision-making at the level of the university, the faculty and the individual degree programmes, in student councils, works councils and programme committees.
- Four advisory committees provide the Executive Board with advice in several areas.
- The Examinations Boards of programmes are responsible for assessing whether each student meets the programme requirements for obtaining a degree. Find out more about their duties and powers.

Affiliated organisations
- Support from the Amsterdam University Fund makes it possible for students and scientists to realize their academic dreams.
- CREA offers courses and workshops in music, dance, theatre, new media, photography and visual arts. We also host concerts, presentations, exhibitions and debates about science, art and society.
- The USC offers over 80 sports different activities, from aikido to weightlifting, and aerobics to lacrosse. Work out 7 days a week at one of our 7 fitness centres located across Amsterdam

- SPUI25 is an academic and cultural centre for lectures, debates, interviews, book presentations and more.
- 19th-century medical professor Gerardus Vrolik began this collection which includes over 10,000 anatomical and embryological specimens, skeletons and skulls, and anatomical models and reconstructions.
- This student orchestra is Amsterdam’s oldest symphony orchestra. It regularly performs at top locations in Amsterdam and elsewhere.
- Folia is the independent, journalistic online magazine for and about the UvA. Folia has existed since 1948 and is produced by a professional editorial team and (former) students.
