Child Development and Education

The College of Child Development and Education (College Pedagogische en Onderwijswetenschappen) invites non-students to join regular students in the lecture rooms.

Offer

Every semester the College of Child Development and Education offers courses which can serve to broaden or deepen the knowledge or experience you gained elsewhere. You can also explore the different subareas within Pedagogical and Educational Sciences. The range of courses and detailed descriptions can be found in the UvA Course Catalogue. If you want to take a specific course which is not listed as an Open Programme course, you can contact the Education Desk of Child Development and Education to inquire about the possibilities.

• Open the UvA Course Catalogue;
• Click on the 'Course' tab;
• Click on '> All courses' on the top right side of the page';
• Set the filter in the left column at 'Other' to 'Open UvA course’.

Registration deadlines

Admission

The Open programme courses of the College of Child Development and Education are open to anybody interested. As the courses are part of the regular programme, your level of prior knowledge should be comparable to that of other students. The exact entry requirements for each course and whether it is desirable that you contact the course coordinator in advance are listed in the UvA Course catalogue.

Since there are only a limited number of places available for each course, registrations are handled in order of receipt of registration and payment. Regular students have priority. If there are no more places available, or if the course cannot take place due to other reasons, you will be informed. The full registration fee will be refunded as soon as possible.

Assessment format and credit conversion

At the end of a lecture series, you can sit an exam; but this is not compulsory. In addition, you are entitled to one resit. If you pass the exam, you will receive a certificate. A few courses include mandatory tutorials. Please consult the course catalogue for the exact requirements for each course.

Costs

The fee is €100 per credit (including examinations) for regular education and €200 per credit (including examinations) for intensive education. A course usually compromises 3, 6 or 9 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit is equivalent to a study load of 28 hours (attending lectures and tutorials, self-study and preparation for lectures and examinations). Literature is not included in the course fee. Included are: all course meetings and the review of the examinations, including one resit.

As a contract student you will receive a UvAnetID. With this UvAnetID you can log in to the digital systems of the UvA such as SIS, UvAmail, UvAvpn and Canvas.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation is only possible in writing, until the start of the corresponding period. You will receive a refund of the full amount if you cancel up to 3 weeks in advance; after that, € 75 administration costs will be charged. If you cancel after the start of the teaching period, you won’t be entitled to a refund.
