Scientists from the Faculty of Life Sciences are involved in numerous collaborative projects. Collaborative research contributes to networking on an institutional, professional and personal level. In cooperation with other universities and non-university institutions, interdisciplinary research is conducted in clusters of excellence, collaborative research centers, research groups and international projects.

Berlin University Alliance Projects forms a conglomerate of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin as well as Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.	- Social cohesion, food and health. Cluster of Excellence (DFG) have the goal of promoting cutting-edge research and advancing the expansion of new research fields.	- EXC 2002: Science of Intelligence (SCIoI) - EXC 2008: UniSysCat - EXC 2025: Matters of Activity. Image Space Material - EXC 2046: Math+ - EXC 2049: NeuroCure

Collaborative Research Centers (DFG) enable scientists to work on complex and long-term research projects by collaborating across the boundaries of their respective disciplines.	- SFB 175: The Chloroplast as a Central Node of Acclimation in Plants - SFB 186: Molecular switches for the spatial and kinetic regulation of cellular signal transduction - SFB 1078: Protein function through protonation dynamics - SFB 1315: Mechanisms and Disorders of Memory Consolidation: From Synapses to the System Level

Research Training Groups and Schools offer structured doctoral programs that provide the framework for interdisciplinary research already during doctoral studies.
