In the State of Berlin, the study programme that leads to a professional teaching qualification which is divided into consecutive courses:

The first part is a three-year combined bachelor's course. At the end of this students are awarded the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
This is followed by a two-year teacher training master's course. The degree awarded is a Master of Education.
The Master of Education enables candidates to apply for induction service as trainee teachers (german: Referendariat). The induction service ends with a state examination, the final stage of teacher training in Germany. Upon passing this final examination teachers can teach at public or private schools.

Our teacher training programme has a modular structure. Credit points (CP) are awarded in compliance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Exams are taken as part of the teaching/learning process.

German language skills at level C1 of the GER are required to enroll in the study programme. To apply to the Induction Service level C2 is required. For details on language skills visit www.europaeischer-referenzrahmen.de.
