Yes, you will need to list accurate information from your documentation. If your income has significantly changed, please visit Apply for Aid and follow the “Special Circumstances steps.” We may adjust your income to reflect what you are expecting to receive for the year that you are a student.
Do I need to report combat pay on the FAFSA?
You would only list combat pay that was taxable and included in your adjusted gross income. You will exclude anything listed on your W-2 (Box 12, Code Q).
Does my VA Disability pay get added to my wages?
You will list the amount of your VA Disability under untaxed income.
Do I need to list my GI bill® benefit under untaxed income?
No, you only list non-educational VA benefits.
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
Will I receive additional aid to pay for Dependent Care?
If you have dependent care expenses, you may submit a 2025-2026 Request to Change Cost of Attendance form through your Financial Aid Portal to increase your budget. This will only initiate a review process and does not guarantee increased aid.
Using TGTP Benefits with Hazlewood Exemption
Using Hazlewood cancels out any TGTP applied benefits. Students may not use Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan benefits in addition to a Hazlewood Exemption.\ \
The purchaser of the TGTP contract must contact the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan office in Austin to request direct reimbursement for benefits for any semester the student is using the Hazlewood exemption. Customers would be able to receive funds back from the state more timely than from the university. Texas A&M University will not request reimbursement for TGTP customers using the Hazlewood exemption.
