How to Apply
\ Scholarships & Financial Aid offers academic scholarships for freshman, transfer, and continuing students. \ \ Your grades are only one of many considerations in the review process. Additional factors for selection include, but are not limited to your leadership, community service, special talents, first generation college status, and academic achievement under difficult circumstances. Students should also submit an aid application to be considered for scholarships that require financial need. Applying for Incoming Freshman Scholarships
Scholarships & Financial Aid offers academic scholarships for incoming freshman admitted to the fall semester. Only fall admits are reviewed for scholarships. You may apply for all University level scholarships through Common App or Apply Texas. The scholarship deadline for fall admits is December 1. Applying for scholarships is a simple two-step process.
Step 1: Complete the Online Application and Provide Consent
- Complete the admission and scholarship applications on Common App or Apply Texas.
- Students must provide consent for application data to be used for scholarship consideration at the time of application. Students who decline will not be considered for scholarship opportunities through Texas A&M University. Once the application is submitted, it cannot be revised.
- The application opens August 1, and closes December 1*.
*If the deadline falls on a weekend, the application will remain open until 11:59 PM (CST) on the following Monday.\ \
Step 2: Submit Supplementary Materials
You should submit the following materials to complete the application process. All items should be received by the application deadline of December 1.
- Essays. Essay A is required for admission and scholarship consideration. Applicants for the Terry Foundation Scholarship must complete an additional leadership essay in the admissions platform on Common App or Apply Texas.
- Self-Reported Transcript Academic Record (STAR). All freshman applicants mustcomplete a Self-Reported Transcript Academic Record (STAR) using their official high school transcript through the Office of Admissions. Scholarships & Financial Aid will not accept documents required for admissions. Visit the Additional Required Documents section of the Office of Admissions’ website for more information. All other admission documents should be uploaded via the Applicant Information System or sent through the mail.
- Letters of Recommendation. Letters of recommendation will not be accepted or considered for scholarships unless specifically requested by Scholarships & Financial Aid. You will be contacted directly if a letter(s) of recommendation is required.
- Résumés. Resumes will not be accepted or considered for scholarships. You should report all campus and community activities, awards, honors, and/or employment directly on Common App or Apply Texas.\ \
Note: Scholarship applications are available for fall freshman admits only. Spring freshman applicants may apply using the University Scholarship application after a semester of enrollment.
Applying for Incoming Transfer Scholarships
Scholarships & Financial Aid offers academic scholarships for incoming transfer students admitted to the fall, spring or summer semester. You may apply for all University level scholarships through Common App or Apply Texas. Applying for transfer scholarships is a simple process.\ \
Complete the Online Application and Provide Consent
- Complete the admission and scholarship portions in Common App or Apply Texas.
- Students must provide consent for application data to be used for scholarship consideration at the time of application. Students who decline will not be considered for scholarship opportunities through Texas A&M University. The consent authorization question is found in the Admissions portion for both ApplyTexas and the Common application. Once the application is submitted, it cannot be revised.

Applying for Continuing Students
Complete the University Scholarship Application\
- You must complete the University Scholarship Application
- Answer all questions and sections with as much detail as possible
- There is no “Submit” button, your application is complete when the status changes to a green “Complete”
- You must submit an aid application for need-based awards.
- Opens October 15 and closes on February 1.

Selecting the "Opt Out" Option for Financial Information
Although not required, it is highly encouraged for applicants to answer all financial related questions. Leaving any financial questions blank on the scholarship application may disqualify you from consideration for some scholarships.
Scholarship Application Tips
DO:
- Submit your own scholarship application.
- Use your full legal name.
- Answer all questions completely, including financial questions.
- Provide as much information as possible – this is the time to brag on yourself!
- Submit Essay A
- Submit the leadership essay for the Terry Foundation Scholarship, with your application, if applicable.
- Submit all required admission documents (Self-Reported Transcript Academic Record, test scores, etc.).

DON’T:
- Don’t have someone else submit your scholarship application for you.
- Don’t rush or wait until the last minute. Plan ahead and be thorough.
- Don’t submit a resume. It will not be considered for scholarships.
- Don’t submit letters of recommendation unless you are asked.
- Don’t forget to submit all required admission documents (Self-Reported Transcript Academic Record, etc.)\ \
All admission documents should be uploaded via the Applicant Information System or sent through the mail.
