Adding or Dropping Classes
\ Students may drop courses during the first five days of a fall or spring semester (the first four days of a summer term). Students also may drop classes with special permission of the dean through the 12th class day of a fall or spring term. Full refunds will be given for courses dropped during these periods provided the student remains enrolled in at least one class. Refunds will not be issued for classes dropped after the 12th class day. Any credit balance on a student account as a result of dropping courses will not be refunded until after the fifth class day. A student may add courses during the first five days of a fall or spring semester. Refunds will not be issued for Q-Dropped courses. Other types of drop requests and all requests to add a course must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar for processing.\ \ Unregistered students should be aware that penalty fees will be assessed for registering on or after the first day of class.Additional penalties will be assessed for registering or adding courses after the official census date for the term (12th class day of a fall or spring semester, 4th class day of a summer term).\ \ For additional information about a change in schedule, see Section 1.16 of the Texas A&M University Student Rules.\ \
Refund Eligibility
Students who add/drop courses during the first five days of a fall or spring semester (summer will depend on the part of term students are registered for, as well as the day they drop) will receive a full refund for classes dropped and charges for classes added will be due immediately. Students also may drop classes with special permission of the dean through the 12th class day of a fall, spring or 10-week summer term.
NOTE—There are no refunds for Q-dropped classes and any credit balance on a student account as a result of dropping courses will not be refunded until after the fifth class day. Once the semester has started students may not drop all of their courses through the add/drop process, but instead must go to the office of their Dean to officially withdraw.
Refund Processing
Students may be eligible for a refund from a class dropped on or before the 5th class day. Refunds begin processing on a daily basis after the 5th* class day.

Post-9/11 GI Bill®
Students receiving Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition and fees education benefits are reminded that under the Isakson & Roe Improvement Act of 2020, overpayments for dropped courses (reduced or terminated enrollment after the start of the semester) will no longer be collected by the Veterans Administration. Instead, funds will be returned to the VA by Texas A&M University, and students may see a balance due on their student account.
Dropping to Zero Hours (Withdrawing)
Prior to the first day of class, students may drop all courses through the add/drop process. As of the first day of the semester, students may not drop all courses through the drop/add process but instead must begin the official withdrawal process online through Howdy (see below for additional information regarding the withdrawal process).

Student-Athletes
- Student-Athletes (includes practice players, managers, and trainers) MUST receive approval from Athletic Compliance before withdrawing
- After the deadline, deans may permit students to withdraw under non-academic extenuating circumstances
- Withdrawals cannot be granted once final exams have begun
