In this major, students learn about the globalization of agriculture systems, new technologies, applied economics and economic logic in order to develop the technical skills needed to analyze and communicate about agriculture, food, management and resource issues in Texas, the nation and the world. Graduates are trained for a wide variety of jobs in agricultural and non-agricultural businesses, firms and agencies in both the public and private sectors. Students in this major can choose an area of focus in either:
- Finance and Real Estate
- Food Marketing Systems
- Policy and Economic Analysis
- Rural Entrepreneurship

We’re committed to providing students opportunities to get a well-rounded education that prepares them to become leaders in their professions and in their communities. That means a focus on service as well as academics, and experience tackling real-world problems alongside some of the world’s top professors. We offer the B.S. in Agricultural Economics at our Texas A&M University campus in College Station and at the Texas A&M Higher Education Center in McAllen.

Degree options
Finance and Real Estate
The Finance and Real Estate Option is designed to provide a well-founded basis in principles, concepts and methods for students interested in finance and/or real estate professional careers in the agricultural industry and/or related professions.
Food Marketing Systems
The Food Marketing Systems Option is designed to assist in the development of economic theory and quantitative analysis skills that students can apply to communicate about the food marketing issues and address operations involved in movement of agricultural commodities from farmer to consumer.
Policy and Economic Analysis
The Policy and Economic Analysis Option equips students with analytical skills to understand the causes, nature, and effects of government participation in agriculture; and interrelationship of the American agriculture and agribusiness sector with the political and economic system, public administration, and interest group representation.
Rural Entrepreneurship
The Rural Entrepreneurship Option is designed to provide a well-founded basis in principles, concepts and methods for students interested in owning and/or managing or otherwise being engaged in working with a business.\

We offer an undergraduate degree in agricultural economics at the the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen, where students in South Texas get the best of both worlds. Students in McAllen benefit from being a part of the larger Texas A&M University family, but can attend classes closer to home with a small college feel.
