## [Scholarship Search Websites](#a-scholarshipsearchwebsites-_O2xc5)

[Scholarship search websites](https://aggie.tamu.edu/financial-aid/types-of-aid/scholarships/additional-scholarships/outside-scholarship-search) are a valuable resource for researching and finding many scholarships on one site for which you may be eligible to apply.

## [Reporting Awards from Outside Services](#a-reportingawardsfromoutsideservices-uyKQMl)

If you are the recipient of any type of award, typically scholarships or corporate sponsorships, from a source other than Texas A&M University, you must report it to Scholarships & Financial Aid as soon as possible. An adjustment in your financial aid offer may be needed according to the guidelines of the aid programs currently offered. You may be required to repay financial assistance you have already received if you are no longer eligible for those aid programs.\
\
To report an award from an outside source, please complete the Report Outside Scholarships and Resources in the Financial Aid Portal:

- Log in to [Howdy](https://howdy.tamu.edu/)
- In the search bar, type 'Financial Aid Portal,' and follow the link to the portal
- Select the academic year in the dropdown menu
- Click the Status page
- In the main screen of the portal under your To Do List, follow the instructions for *Report Outside Scholarships and Resources*

## [Scholarship Scam Warnings](#a-scholarshipscamwarnings-Fu4Lly)

Be alert of potential scholarship scams. Any scholarship asking for a deposit is not considered a true scholarship. Some private companies will request a deposit or fee, which in some cases can be a reduction in a housing payment, or a “searching” fee for scholarships that you can pursue on your own without paying a fee. You should not have to pay for scholarships.\

## [Top 10 Tips for Successful Scholarship Applications](#a-top10tipsforsuccessfulscholarshipapplications-1kkRrM)

- **Apply for anything and everything.** Apply for everything you think you might be eligible to receive.
- **Complete the application in full.** Note if something is not applicable (N/A) on the application. Do not leave items blank.
- **Follow directions.** Do not supply items not requested (e.g., transcripts, resumes, etc.).
- **Neatness counts.** Make photocopies for working drafts. Type when you can and make sure your printer has plenty of ink. If you must fill in an application by hand, be sure that your writing is neat and clearly legible.
- **Leave an impression.** Be personal and specific in your essays. Include concrete details. (Remember that the special circumstances essay is optional but highly recommended.)
- **Watch all deadlines.**Have a self-imposed deadline two weeks prior to the actual due date. Use this as proofreading time.
- **Review it before you submit your application.** You and another person should proofread the entire application carefully. Spellcheck will not catch all errors.
- **Ask for help.** If you need to, call the funding organization to ask for guidance or clarification.
- **Make sure your application gets where it needs to go.** Make a copy of the entire packet and keep it for your files. Make certain that your name appears on all pages. Double-check where to submit each application.
- **Remember, your scholarship application represents you!**Your application should reflect what makes you special. For ideas and help, talk to your friends and family to find out what makes you unique.
