## [Undergraduate Students](#a-undergraduatestudents-v6rwHm)

To graduate with Latin honors requires a **minimum** of 60 passed hours at Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University at Galveston, or Texas A&M University at Qatar (excluding Credit by Exam and Graduate Level courses) with a minimum GPR of 3.500. The specific honors levels are as follows:

- 3.900 - 4.000 GPA = Summa Cum Laude
- 3.700 - 3.899 GPA = Magna Cum Laude
- 3.500 - 3.699 GPA = Cum Laude

\
Grade point averages used to determine Latin honors designations are calculated once degree candidate grades are submitted, per the [Academic Calendar](https://registrar.tamu.edu/academic-calendar), and include hours and final grades in courses taken during the student's graduating semester. These calculations are cumulative and are factored using all courses completed at the undergraduate level. Latin honors designations will not be changed after the final graduation clearance deadline set in [Student Rule 14.5](https://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule14/).\
\

Information regarding other designations may be found on the Honors Academy's [Honors Programs Directory](http://honorsprograms.tamu.edu/Home) webpage. [Undergraduate Research Scholars](https://ugr.tamu.edu/programs/urs/index.html) recognize graduates who participated in a select program of independent research leading to a senior thesis. [Honors Fellows](https://honors.tamu.edu/academics/honors-fellows/index.html) recognize graduates who completed the University Honors curriculum (30 credit hours of honors coursework and a capstone experience).

### Please note:

- Students are **not** required to enroll in honors courses to graduate with honors.
- Taking designated honors courses does not mean students graduate with honors.
- There is not an application process to receive Latin Honors. This distinction and the stole is automatically awarded to eligible students.\
  \

**No Upper Division student found guilty of academic misconduct may receive Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude honors at graduation**. Upper Division status is defined as having earned 60 or more credit hours, including transfer hours, prior to the date of the violation. This sanction is automatic upon a finding of academic misconduct, and is imposed without regard to the severity of other sanctions imposed by the instructor or Honor Council.
